The only losers in the above fiasco are the residents and visitors of Belmar, now known as hostages.

What in the world are Walsifer and his gang thinking?

How about the first aid donate the building to the town if it’s being used as a public safety building instead of robbing the taxpayers of 1.4 million. Like they did with the ambulances!

#4 Are you kidding? Why would BFAS do that? Did you expect the Methodist church to donate that building and land? Why don’t you donate your private property to the town? Doesn’t that sound ridiculous?

If Walsifer cared about the taxpayers he would have paid the $40k the squad asked for in the first place! A TOTAL of 70k per year sounds like peanuts to operate a first aid squad. That was the first blunder.

Walsifer said no to the 70k, it was too much, so BORROWS AND SPENDS close to 2 MILLION instead!!! On top of all that money spent, WASTES MORE TAXPAYER DOLLARS by not allowing homes to be built on that land. Homes on that land would increase the tax base.

And now, Walsifer is refusing to agree not to expand the footprint of the building??? What does he want to build?

The reason Walsifer didn’t give the first aid an additional 40k was because the first aid (frank hines) refused to show the books.
The town gets no tax revenue from the first aid property now so if continues to be a public safety bldg, it’s a wash.
The town also did get tax revenue from the church but will now when they build new houses. So we’re ahead.

When you hire a contractor, do you require them to “show you their books”?

Who cares what “the books” were if they are providing a service to the town at a price that could not be beat? How do I know it could not be beat? Because they put it out to bid and nothing came in even close to 70k. Then they spent close to 2 million trying to replicate the service we could have gotten for 70k.

I understand that the town gets no tax revenue from the current building. My point was that if the mayor didn’t threaten the winning bidder and force them to withdraw, that property would have become single family houses.

I only brought up the church because no one was insisting the church donate their property to the town, it is ridiculous to expect the first aid squad to.

If you’re subsidizing a “private contractor” with public funds, I think you have every right to ask to see the books to insure they are A) in need of additional funds and B) if they are appropriating the funds correctly.
This whole thing started over the “books” but mushroomed into personalities when Campbell demoralized Hines step son. From that point on the negotiations were over!

I disagree. I am pretty sure the town doesn’t ask to see the books of Delisa Waste services, even though we pay them public funds to provide a service to our town.

Either way, my feeling is that the goal was always to take over the squad, install an ex-cop buddy as the head of first aid. I just worry about what the plan is to build if the current footprint isn’t enough.

6/8 is correct – a non -profit that asks for taxpayer money should open their books and show the taxpayers why they need more money Period. It also wasn’t the first time that the BFAS refused to show their books – not a good signal to send when you want taxpayer money. The current state of affairs seems very personal but it is rooted in a valid point about where exactly taxpayer money goes.

Go to they posted their books under the financial disclosures section. Was this not enough for Walsifer and co? I’m sure the Squad’s attorney took a hard look at their books and would have let them know if something didn’t look right anyway.

These people are all GREEDY. Whats in it for THEM. Vote them out if you don’t like them. #8 is correct. This all has to do with the Campbell lawsuit. Period. And some very THICK heads involved. Once again taking their grievances out on the backs of the taxpayers. I dare anyone to say otherwise.
