Think of this as Bean v Nicolay but in reverse. One candidate is a much needed check on a fairly out of control mayor and council, the other is a rubber stamp for a fairly out of control mayor and council. Choose wisely and ignore the little letters after their names. These guys need a dissenting voice from time to time.

Ms. Kinney is also a small business owner and she will be able to utilize her knowledge to help bring back our struggling Main Street. Gerry has only collected a salary and pension from the taxpayers so he will not be able to offer experience in that aspect. Knowing the struggles especially in the recent year and half Ms. Kinney will be able to relate and utilize her everyday experiences to help the whole community.

#2 Diversity of ideas is more important than diversity of gender. Kinney is a rubber stamp for that ‘boys club’ and will offer no new views but only go along.
#3 While being a small biz owner is good, she is a hand picked candidate by Walsifer. Never a good idea to elect someone like that. In addition, anything that comes before the board that is related in any way to her landlord (a major Belmar developer and commercial property owner), she’ll have to recuse herself. That is a disqualifier in my view. Remember Tom Brennan recusing himself because his band may one day play at the bar that had business before the council? No thanks.
Jerry is the choice. Walsifer and Kirschenbaum need a check on their power.

Jerry is in bed with the prior administration now that he became less independent and a dem, partying with Matt, Nicolay etc for their donations and support. I am sure he will owe favors. The financial state and the projects a lot of you complain about started with the dems and Matt, and even the great King P for that matter.

This council needs a check on its power. Matt and company were a disaster. Corrupt and dishonest. Jerry has zero allegiance to that crew. Walsifer is a nice man but he has been corrupted by power. It happens. There needs to be a dissenting voice on this board. Jodi Kinney ain’t it. Sorry.

If you really have concerns, talk to Jerry. Have him over to your house. This is a small town. The candidates are available. If you did that, you would probably change your tune. He’s a good man with a head for numbers. This isn’t an ego trip for him. He’s genuinely concerned.

The only thing you said that makes any sense at all was, “vote for whoever you want”. Neither candidate grew up in Belmar. BOTH of them have decided to make their home here. BOTH of them care enough about the town to run for the world’s most thankless job. Only ONE of them was hand picked by Walsifer (after about a half dozen of his first choices said no thanks). And if we learn anything from history, the only candidates chosen to run by those already in power are bound to walk the line.
Personally, I refuse to accept that. Jerry gets my vote.

In my opinion, the borough of Belmar has only gotten harder to raise a family in since the Walsifer mayorship started. Taxes have skyrocketed, water and sewer have skyrocketed, businesses have new regulations to comply with (need two paper cups to hold my coffee instead of one styrofoam), I got a ticket for having my car in the street when it snowed, Walsifer’s Borough admin bullies and steps on people, and the fear of eminent domain is always possible now that the council has shown they rejoice in its power. This isn’t what I voted for. Gerry would be a check on Walsifer ego and power, and through conflict comes better decisions. Bean was a check on Doherty. Looking back Doherty wasn’t that popular and only won elections that DJais was involved in. All special elections he lost. The state changed the voting laws denying DJais their vote harvesting and ushering in fairer elections. Bean was effective in exposing the corruption and the runaway spending. Gerry will hopefully do the same.

Yes, we need tourism for our biz district but as a full time resident, I’m a little tired of every decision benefitting the bennies over the residents. Enough already.

Jodi has a lot more well rounded experience then Jerry and contributes to the community a lot more. She is raising her young family in Belmar, a fulltime Belmar resident and she has also invested in the Belmar community by placing her practice in the community.

Lets not forget Jerry did not call Belmar home as a fulltime resident until he retired. Prior to that he was the what #19 referred to as “bennie” that would use Belmar during the peak seasons then ride back to his home in north jersey. Where he was collecting a state salary by being a secretary at the superior court, which you do not need a law degree to obtain the position.

Mrs. Kinney is fully invested in our community’s success, she is a positive voice of the future and has knowledge from a bunch of unique perspectives as a resident raising a family and a small business owner and knows the struggles that come with same.

She will constantly be interacting with the community even after election season. She is easy to talk to and does have her own voice.

A strong woman would be able to start and continue a business. She went to medical school and actually practices and uses her degree and license.

Mr. Jerry, clearly could not hack it as an attorney or he we would have used his degree and law license in a position that required one. Instead he took the easy way out and took a position not requiring that education. He could not even get a state appointment acting as an attorney. Sounds like he is the one that falls short.

Living in this town in any capacity gives a person perspective on what can be improved. Just because Mrs Kinney is raising a family here is not reason enough to vote for her. Matt Doherty, Jen Nikolay, and Tom Brennan all raised a family here too. Not exactly a compelling argument. I’m sorry but Jerry is more qualified. He will be a dissenting voice to check this administration. Plus he can dedicate more time to the position AND he won’t have to recuse himself every time Kapalko has business in front of the town. That alone makes her ineligible in my book. We remember from the Doherty admin how conflicts of interest can corrode trust.
Also, folks who lived in north jersey and fell in love with Belmar after visiting in the summer make up about 98% of this town. Could be parents or grandparents or great grandparents. But somewhere along the way, someone summered here and decided to move to the shore permanently. That is not a bad thing.

And the over 400 signature petition that made him fold like a beach chair and decide to not even let it go to a vote? The guy that picked her to run.
Also, she has been to maybe three council meetings. My guess is someone on her committee suggested she attend a few before the election. Jerry has been to every one (except a few here and there) for over two years. She also didn’t know how the master plan works in relation to the zoning/planning board. I’m sorry but she’s not ready for prime time. She needs to attend more meetings, brush up on general civics and Belmar ordnances. This is not a learn on the job situation. But not once have I ever seen her at a council meeting voice any of those concerns. And mind you, this is the second time she’s running. What has she done specifically to improve the community between that time? At least Jerry has been keeping up on events and holding the council accountable for it’s shady affairs.

There is, however, a pretty significant intellectual difference between the two. Blindly voting the party line (especially in this case) is counterproductive and would go against your own interests. That is unless you are against balancing the budget, reigning in corruption, and regulating over development. If you are against all those things, then by all means vote for Jodi.

#33 I’m writing an article for Hypocrisy Today. But when a republican says the same thing during a democrat administration, it means he’s being patriotic? I just want to be clear. My readers expect blatant hypocrisy, and I want to thank you for delivering such.
You wake up, chicken little. Go ahead and blame the post pandemic GLOBAL supply chain and labor shortage on the guy that’s been in charge for 10 months. The removal of troops from Afghanistan was a s*%# show for sure, but you could say that about our last 20 years in that country. The exit plan was designed by the previous administration, who was very clear about getting all troops out of there. The unemployment rate in this country is at 4.8%. On Jan 20th, 2021 it was at 6.3%. In case you have a hard time with stats, the lower number is better.
America vacillates between red presidents and blue presidents. And each time the other side thinks the country is being ruined. And each time, the needle barely moves. Take a break from your doomsday rhetoric and lend a hand. Otherwise get out of the way. Maybe this will help: the only President in modern history to leave office with a balanced budget was (gulp) Bill Clinton. George W Bush left office with an economy in free fall. Barack Obama left office with an economy that was booming on all fronts (as stated by economists on both sides of the isle) His admin created more jobs in his last three years in office than Trump did in his fist three years in office (pre Covid). These are just numbers. Maybe they don’t mean anything. Well, they do mean ONE thing…stop worrying so much, let go of your hate and anger, and appreciate the positive things in your life. Thank you

I didn’t lay one thing at his feet. All I did was point out some factual numbers. As you know, numbers don’t have an agenda. You know, or should know, that the US economy is like a over sized tanker ship. When the captain turns the wheel, it’s like a year before the ship starts to turn. As economists point out, we are often in a recession for six months before we know it. This current situation- inflation, gas prices (they were higher under Bush when adjusted for inflation but I digress), etc. are symptoms of larger problems. Blaming all this on the Biden admin is a little disingenuous. But like I said, this country goes through ups and downs. Sometimes during a Republican prez, sometimes during a Democrat prez. I actually agree with you that Biden is not the best guy for the job. But he’s president today ONLY because the last guy was worse. Plain and simple. Hopefully the next person returns us to a time when we elect vibrant intellectuals, not washed up reality TV stars and dottering old fools.

Please let me know how that doesn’t apply to this situation? I’m all ears.
I spent six years fighting the corrupt Doherty admin for doing this kind of thing. It’s inexcusable and monumentally stupid. And Walsifer’s response is so Dohertyesque It’s classic political hair splitting and we never tolerated it from the last administration. It’s always the same- they violate the ordinance, then act like the person calling them out is just ‘complaining’. Remember when Matt used to say ‘I’m sorry you’re against our recovery’ when he was called out for elections violations?? Remember when we were ‘the element’?
Well Walsifer is doing the same thing. If this is acceptable to anyone that had a problem with the Doherty admin, then you are a hypocrite. There is no way around that. If you are ok with being a hypocrite about this, we’ll them that’s a different story.

#51 that’s a fairly typical response from someone who is embarrassed about the candidate they’re backing. If deflecting like that helps you justify your embarrassment for trusting Walsifer and Kinney, go ahead. However, I recommend being honest with yourself. It’s ok, you can talk about your doubts and fears. No one will judge you. It will pay off in the long run. And FYI, I’m not voting for Murphy. I don’t like being lied to, which is exactly why I’m also not voting for Kinney. I vote the candidate, not the party. You probably follow the herd, I get sick of the view.

#54 true, and because of this stunt, she should never be elected.

Please note ‘permit others to use’. Walsifer and McKrackin are elected officials. They ‘permitted’ it. Please don’t split hairs. We all know that if Doherty and Magovern did the same exact thing for new candidate Nicolay? You would be demanding answers and you wouldn’t (I wouldn’t) vote for her. Anything short of that is hypocrisy. Sorry

This is exactly why I am not voting for Jerry. He is like a needle prick. He will spend four years costing the tax payers more money on lawsuits. Please Jerry make claims about real crimes. This is so petty I can’t believe you would even stoop so low. No one wants your vortex of anger. Lastly, Jerry I received a post card of all the events you attended and participated, you don’t call that politicking? Seriously man…Get a life. Jodi you have my vote!

#56 So just to be clear, you are ok with what the Kinney campaign did at the boro hall? And you won’t vote for someone because they WILL keep the current admin honest? You don’t like that? Just trying to get my head around that philosophy.
Oh and the post card of all the events Jerry attended, NONE OF THEM WERE HELD AT A THE PUBLICLY OWNED BORO HALL! Maybe do like a minute of research into what ‘politicking’ means. The lack of understanding about how laws work in this town is staggering. I want you to close your eyes and imagine if during a Belmar Rec basketball game in the Belmar gym, Jerry was there with a table and lawn signs handing them out to people and asking them to vote for him. You would be ok with that? I wouldn’t, and I support his candidacy. Well that’s the equivalent of what the Kinney campaign did. And if you can’t see why it’s very bad, then you are beyond reasoning with. Kinney has shown time and time again (lack of basic understanding, not attending actual meetings, violating campaign laws) why she does not deserve your vote. We need to stop allowing the politicians in this town to do what ever they want. We sent the last admin a message, now let’s send this one a message.

Again, Jerry is like a needle prick. He will spend three years costing the tax payers more money on lawsuits. Sadly, he also proved he can not and will not work with the Mayor and council. As lengthy as your response was, thank you… you have to realize that it is a waste of a seat for beloved Belmar.

Well I hope you at least learned a civics lesson. Your blatant double standard when it comes to campaign rules explains why you would vote for Kinney.
I know I can’t convince you to vote for Jerry. Hopefully you will one day understand that when an administration is corrupt, you do what you can to interfere. When an administration acts above board, there is no need for law suits. That’s like blaming the people who went after Matt Doherty for costing the town money. If Matt (and Walsifer) were clean, there’d be no need to challenge them. I hope you one day understand that. You don’t blame the patient suffering from a botched surgery for suing the incompetent doctor, you blame the incompetent doctor.
A vote for Kinney is a vote against beloved Belmar.

Sounds like a Doherty move but it was……

    Dr. Jodi Kinney

Either she didn’t know (dangerous to have someone that ignorant in charge) or she didn’t care (even more dangerous).

Walsifer and McKracken know it’s not allowed. They allowed it anyway. What they need is a new council member that makes them uncomfortable. Vote for the guy that Walsifer desperately (and for good reason) wants to keep off the council.

Yea you’re right. I think it’s fine that Walsifer and Kirschenbaum use this town as an ATM machine. Maybe Dave should’ve ‘simmered down’ when we were trying to hold Matt Doherty accountable. He probably should’ve chosen his battles. Maybe he should’ve just breathed and considered the problems in the world.
    Thank you.
    And you’re right….please vote

Simmer down: The event was suppossed to be outside? Where? Also on municipal grounds, also run by the municipality. The whole point of government is to keep us safe, and keep us fair. The whole reason you’re on this blog is to check those two issues. Maybe you should follow a self help blog? That’s a good place to remind yourself to love life and breathe (or breath as you say).
