Affordable Housing –
But don’t worry,
Blossom Cove Road in Middletown will remain Pristine –

  1. Looks like only 8 out of the 46 apts will be designated affordable housing. And, as you all know by now, affordable is in relation to market value, which for many is ironically unaffordable. I don’t know if this merits a sky is falling mentality.

Joe D- as usual you have a frighteningly misguided grasp of government. The government isn’t building this, a private developer is. If the developers of the world didn’t have any oversight from the government, this “monstrosity” would be three times as high and would have 150 units or more. People like you are always complaining about the government, but our public institutions (building codes, zoning laws, height restrictions, etc) actually stop developers from doing whatever the heck makes then the most money. Which is never in the public interest. You can’t complain about development AND the government. It’s one or the other my ignorant friend. Nothing would please developers more than having no government interference in their lives. They could build whatever they want, wherever they want.
You want gov out of your life? Then Matawan (and Belmar for that matter) WOULD look like Jersey City.
    Please, educate yourself.

    1. Dear It. I never said the gvt. was building this. Complaining about the government? Check out DOGE findings. As always you make zero meaning.

      1. You said, and I quote, “doesn’t matter, the government will do what it wants”.
What exactly did you mean? In relation to the article about which you were commenting.
Your words mean, in any context, that you think the government is, in fact, building this.
You can back peddle all you like. I mean hey, we live in the world of back peddling. I’ll take your denial as an apology and an act of contrition. So thank you

  2. Having those affordable units is fine. It’s the rest of the huge development that goes along with it. Because the builder would lose money with just affordable units.

  3. There was an amazing event at the Taylor Pavilion today. Actors portraying John Adams and Thomas Jefferson staged a debate about the forming on the Constitution. They were in character the entire time and it was an amazing glimpse into our founding history.
I hope this blog will advertise the next time they have such a thing (apologies if you did advertise it and I missed it).
It would have been an important event for those who complain constantly, but know very little about how our government actually works. Watching this intellectual exercise would certainly (hopefully) evoke some critical thought in those Americans who willingly accept an unelected billionaire lawlessly attempting to dismantle our democracy. This should not be a partisan issue.
    The founders would weep.

    1. Mr./Mrs/Miss King. The founders said. The best government is the one that governs less and less and less. Elon is finding waste. Take a break and relax. The founders are very happy.

      1. Elon musk is a foreign national. A wealthy silver spoon who was not elected to any office.
If he’s looking for waste, the first stop is the Oval Office. The second stop is the legislature. He’s ignoring both.
He’s literally found nothing but things that our democratic institutions do that he just doesn’t like. He grew up in South Africa, in the shade of apartheid. You are not paying any attention at all if you believe that this fits in with American values.
Read a book. Study the founding of this great nation. Please.

          1. Ha. Wide awake my ignorant friend. Actually hypocritical is a more accurate description for you.

          2. Unfortunately, I’m wide awake. I wish I was asleep.
You realize Musk gets billions of dollars from government contracts right? Something tells me you don’t know that, which is more than a little scary.
It is the most basic conflict of interest having him involved in any government spending adjustments.
It would be like asking the guy you pay to mow your lawn to rearrange your household budget to free up more money for lawn maintenance.
I’m at a loss. Such willful ignorance is incomprehensible.

          1. Great point. If Soros paid $350 million to elect Harris and as a result was given full access to the most sensitive government information, Fox News would air nothing else, the GOP would be losing their minds, and Trump would be in all caps mode. And you know what? They’d be right! We should not give that kind of power to unelected dudes simply because they’re rich. It’s not ok under any circumstances.

        1. Are you the 150 year old on social security? What are your thoughts there? Nothing to see?

What do you think of the “retirement mine”?

          1. I think you need to get your ‘news’ from a different source. Or at least make an attempt to get to the truth.

      2. Oh please reference that quote from the founders. You can’t? Oh man.
Please explain how invading Greenland, Gaza, or Canada is governing less and less and less. Explain how dozens of executive orders is governing less and less and less. I remember when Obama had some executive orders, oh boy did the republicans go crazy. How times have changed.
You’re a hypocrite. And anyone that is ok with a foreigner (former illegal immigrant) going through OUR government records…is a traitor.
        Sorry, but it’s true.

        (Asteriska are mine, Editor.)

        1. All the damage that the Dems did we need EXECUTIVE ORDERS. So if you are a person assigned by the president to perform an audit and find Billions of $$$ wasted you say they are hypocrites. Fool. CA cant find billions of $$ . They need a DOGE. I do feel sorry for you . Zero common sense.

          1. You really aren’t getting this? I’ll try to dumb it down for you. Let’s say you have a leaky faucet in the kitchen. But in your basement, the water main is broken and water is pouring out like a fire hose. So you hire a plumber who comes over and makes a big deal about the leaky faucet and how he’s gonna fix it. But he doesn’t mention the water main break. He doesn’t want you to know about that. Maybe because he benefits from it, maybe he just doesn’t care. Either way, you are happy and triumphant that you stopped the leaky faucet. But the actual problem, the much much bigger problem still persists.
That is what dodge is. They are the plumber that brags about stopping a leak while water fills your basement.
I hope that clears it up for you, but I doubt it.

  4. Mount Laurel decision of yore needs to be re-visited by the courts. Bunch of ** that costs us ALL a lot of money.

  5. Builders won’t build if they are going to lose money. Even if this entire building was “low income” housing, the builder would make money. What makes them shy away is that they won’t make ENOUGH money.
The building on tenth by the tracks has low income units. That building has been up for years. I haven’t noticed the town going to pot because of it. And that’s what people freak out about. They hear “low income” and imagine the South Bronx in the 70s. It’s a basic lack of understanding that stems from unconscious bias that is fed and nourished by social media algorithms and news media consumption.
Is it ugly? Absolutely. Is low income housing necessary? Absolutely.

  6. I think the founders would weep harder if they saw the fraud, mismanagement and corruption of these government agencies misappropriating our hard earned tax dollars on Sesame Street shows in Iraq and so on.
How can any American not be upset with this wasteful spending. We should be thanking the President and his billionaire friends!

    1. You need to watch another channel. Look at what’s really going on. Sesame Street? That’s what you’re upset about?!?!?! That show has been a staple since America was great.
The billions flowing into the pockets of law makers and, yes, Trump is staggering.
The largest part of the US budget, by far, is Medicare and the military. By far.
Is the African queen looking at that? No! He can’t. Not allowed.
USAID hasn’t given a dime to Politico. That’s an outright lie. What they actually do is help stop human trafficking. It makes sense that Elon and his ventriloquist dummy Donny would want an institution looking into that shut down. I’d say more about that but I’d get shut down by the admin.
EDUCATE YOURSELF. Please, for our great nation.

  7. The combination of our rotten to the core judicial system and the corrupt legislature in Trenton came up with this lousy Affordable Housing idea.

    1. Actually, affordable housing laws were passed by Congress in 1934 when they created the Federal Housing Administration. You know, back when America was great.
I know I know, I also hate it when facts get in the way of my rants.

  8. This blog is a joke and filled with nothing but hate and censored b******t. What ever happened to freedom of speech?
Someone should bring back a blog like Dave use to run where all comments were posted.
I am sure this comment will not make the blog!

    (Asterisks are mine, Editor.)

    1. Again, this has to be explained. Again, it is sad how many people don’t understand how the first amendment works.
THIS BLOG IS RUN BY A PRIVATE CITIZEN WHO CAN CHOOSE TO POST OR NOT TO POST ANY COMMENT. THE SAME IS TRUE FOR FB, TWIT-ER, INSTA, OR ANY OTHER BLOG OR SOCIAL MEDIA SITE.
The first amendment (or freedom of speech as you put it) protects us from prosecution from the government. It does not mean that you can say what ever you want and this blog admin HAS to post it. Walmart doesn’t have to sell books they don’t like, bakers don’t have to bake cakes for gay people, and the Belmar Blog doesn’t have to post your comments. Period. It has nothing to do with your freedom of speech. Nothing is stopping you from starting your own blog and saying whatever you want. Just be careful because this new prez is very litigious when he thinks he’s being insulted.

Please folks, if you’re going to whine about freedom of speech, learn what it is.

      1. The point is WHY have a blog if you are going to just post whatever fits your narritive. Its not “THE BEMAR BLOG” its “The SELECTIVE Belmar Blog”
        Bring back Dave!

        1. The same reason Fox News and MSNBC don’t report everything. The same reason Musk bans certain Twitter profiles. The same reason people avoid certain facts that challenge their comfy belief system.
It’s human nature and it’s not a freedom of speech violation.

  9. Inflation is getting worse. Canada (Canada!) is booing us. There’s an unelected billionaire, whose company ironically received over 10 billion dollars from the federal government, digging into personal information with impunity.
And we have a president that literally spends his time obsessing over petty grievances with pop stars. Pop stars.
Imagine Reagan obsessing about what Debbie Gibson thought of him?!? Ridiculous. Because adults don’t do that. Men of honor and integrity don’t obsess about celebrities.

All you folks who pulled the lever for this man child will regret it. It will be too late of course, and you’ll never admit it, but you’ll regret it.

      1. I’m sorry I wasn’t paying attention, I was spending my time posting an all caps rant because a young pop star hurt my feelings.

Yes, when that is what the president of the United States is up to? I have to admit, my mind tends to close. I am an adult. I have a job and responsibilities. I do not have time for grown men who have catty fights with vapid celebrities. I’m very surprised that you are ok with it. You seem like a serious person who wouldn’t abide such obvious childishness of it all. But whatever.

  10. The biggest punchline in this Trump joke is the fact that the states that pay more money to the federal government than they get back are the states that didn’t go for Trump. And the states that get much more money from the feds than they give did go for Trump. The blue states make, the red states take. And the best part, the red states are gonna be up a creek without a paddle when their federal dollars dry up. Personally, I look forward to it.
NJ, NY, MA, RI, NH, CA, WA, MN, etc all give way more to the federal govt than they get back. Just about every other state gets back more than they give. The biggest takers being the deep red states of AR, MS, LA, SC, OK, AL; with FL (yup, Florida), TX, and the Dakotas also taking more than they give.
This is indicative of the bizarro world in which we live.
I know you die hard Fox News watchers aren’t going to believe it. And I don’t blame you, this kind of factual data will never be allowed anywhere near that particular “news” channel. So I ask you do something that Fox would NEVER ask you to do…look it up for yourself. In other words, think for yourself. Scary I known, but you got this.

      1. You really don’t get it do you? We support the red states. It’s not our choice. All 50 states pay into the federal government. Some states require more of that pile of money back than others. We don’t require a lot back because we make our own. Fun fact- California has the fifth largest economy in the world. Not in the US, in the entire world. Crazy right?

Let’s say there’s a set of parents that have two children. One child has a good job, their own place to live, and is self sufficient enough to send money to mom and dad. The other child is kind of a loser. Sure he brags about his freedom and independence but the truth is mom and dad, with the help of the first kid, pay his rent, and for his groceries, and his car payment.
Using your logic, we should be mad at the first kid. It makes no sense of course but I understand where you’re coming from. You have been programmed, and the thought that blue states literally subsidize red states is too much to handle because that would mean most of the things you believe to be true, aren’t. But I ask you to do a little research. Poke around. Educate yourself. It’s hard, I get it, believe me I get it, but you will be surprised. And it may help you be less angry all the time.
I don’t expect you to take my advice. Too much work. You’ll just respond with a lucid, well thought out retort like “dems are ruining everything” or “every dem is evil” or “dems are the reason we have tornados”. And I’ll sigh and keep trying to get through.

          1. Haha. You chose the “I’m taking my ball and going home” argument much faster than usual. I don’t blame you. If the guy I looked at as the Messiah turned out to be a pariah, I too would be embarrassed.
            Inflation is actually getting worse
You think ins is high now? Hahahaha. Oh boy, wait til the African Queen guts FEMA and people here in Belmar have to pay market rate for flood insurance.
You enjoying your Medicare benefits? Wait til the AQ and RFK take a chainsaw to that.
You won’t be happy. You’ll twist yourself into a pretzel trying to blame the dems of course, but the real culprit will be looking back at you from the bathroom mirror.

  11. Again, having the 8 affordable units is fine, but the 38 other units that have to go with it make for the monstrosity.

    1. What does that even mean? If there is room, and zoning approval, for 38 units, the developer is gonna build them. The developer would build 100 units if he got approval and the market would bear it. The 8 “affordable” units are just a very small compromise struck between local officials, who want places to live that a cop or nurse or teacher can afford, and the developer.
You guys act like the developer was only gonna build 8 units. When he found out they had to be affordable, he upped it to 38. I hate to tell you, it’s the other way around.
