When I was a kid, one of these insects jumped out of a tree and landed on me. That is supposed to be good luck. I keep a low profile for a reason, one being to dodge jumping mantises. The praying mantis is also a kung fu symbol. I like them because they look like aliens.
I had a praying mantis in my rose garden yesterday, wonder if he got a meal.
