Belmar Council Meeting – February 4, 2026

This is the Borough’s recording.
The purpose of this Special Meeting was to have an Executive Session, but there was a Public Session.

  1. It’s been almost two weeks since the storm and we still have properties in town that have not cleared sidewalks. I see kids walking to school in the streets because sidewalks on $2M+ summer homes haven’t been cleared yet. Kind of rude if you ask me. Also see that our new development project by bridge on RT 35 can’t clear the sidewalks either so they are off to a great start!

  2. They were giving parking tickets to cars left in the street. Maybe they should give out fines to folks who haven’t cleared their sidewalks. Or have the town clear their sidewalks and give them the bill. Perhaps offer DPW help for the folks who are too old to do it themselves and can’t afford to pay a snow removal company due to being on a fixed income. As for the new development by the bridge? Welcome to Belmar development. There is no profit in clearing sidewalks. Only good will. And profit is way more important to these folks than good will.
But hey, there are two new council members who ran on…well I don’t remember what they ran on, but maybe they can make a splash and do something. (Holding breath)

  3. WOW!
Finally our other elected officials get to speak freely and openly at council meetings and personally show the Mayor who dismisses people by laughing, teasing, and pointing people away from the microphone, how good communication skills and the “No Kings” movement of which he was a huge backer of- hypocritically in the end- actually work in a government that is a republic with checks and balances, and not a monarchy.

Speaking of monarchies- actually cartels is probably a better term- I hear Matt Doherty might run for Belmar Mayor AGAIN. He would definitely do a much better job than anyone in a State of Emergency like this past winter storm as he proved during Superstorm Sandy. Besides removing snow and ice however, he’d remove other stuff from the public for his own personal benefit unfortunately. So to the new folks in town who have no idea of the history of the Doherty Administration, get educated FAST about the past, so history doesn’t repeat itself for the sake of the informed, non-partisan among us.

Also, it was sad to see our Seniors neglected during the post storm cleanup phase. I’m sure the Belmar Borough Administrator was in contact with Belmar Borough by phone from Freehold during those critical few days. For $150K a year, I mean, hey, you get what you pay for. 😉

  4. Doherty?? Dirty Doherty thinking of running again!! Are you kidding me!!
Does the egotistical narcissist think people like him and want him back?? Please, stay in Bradley Beach with your political hack BA job and leave Belmar alone!

  5. I don’t agree with McEvoy often, but I’m totally on the same page about Doherty. If he’s stupid enough to think the citizens of Belmar want him back he’s sadly mistaken. What will he be, an Independent? What a loser.

    1. It’s what dems do when they know they can’t win under their own party…..(Deleted by Editor.)

      1. He agreed with you. Are you suggesting that he isn’t “allowed” to say your name when referencing the times he didn’t agreeing with you? Unless he (or she) posts their name? These are the rules YOU would like applied to someone else’s website?
Careful, you’re sounding a bit like the Orwellian politicians you so vehemently decry.

        1. Yeah, he agreed and then covered his political butt by saying he doesn’t agree with me often, and did it anonymously and made it about personal feelings like you always seem to do. You’re a coward too. No, you’re not breaking any rules, and I don’t make them here, that’s not what I said. You love to attack people by manipulating their words to suit your narrative. You’re a nasty person and have virtually ruined The Blog through your nonstop partisan attacks. You’re simply a taker and give very little to this town except for your crappy far left opinions. What have you done lately for Belmar besides complain? You’re the crier! I’m the one who stands up to the political bullies who all happen to hide behind either their positions or their anonymity.

        2. You must be a Far Left radical if you try to spin, “How ’bout not mentioning me if you refuse to mention yourself?” into “Orwellian”. WOW! Seek help immediately for your partisan programmed paranoia. Maybe ABC News New York is hiring? Maybe get a job right up in Manhattan and leave the sane of us alone to deal with “helping” Belmar avoid more idiocy. You certainly fancy yourself as a tabloid style journalist with your catchy headlines. So much talent going to waste.

  6. I understand that beginning on Tuesday, the town workers will be clearing snow from Main Street in preparation for the St. Patrick’s Parade. Main Street will be closed in four block intervals from 5pm-11pm. I’m sure the mayor wants to put on a good face for the politicians who attend the parade. I assume that the DPW staff will receive overtime. And the mayor doesn’t feel responsible for clearing the senior housing parking lot. How about cleaning up the boardwalk which still has ice and snow in many spots? Both Avon and Spring Lake boards are clear and accessible.

    1. Who will be paying to have Main Street cleared for the parade, the taxpayers??
The town pays for all the expenses for the parade. Overtime for police and DPW. How about the parade committee pay up through their many many fundraisers they have throughout the year.

      1. The parade is stupid and should be abolished. It’s not a tribute to Irish culture, it’s a pointless event that celebrates first aid trucks and emphasizes gross stereotypes.

    1. CANCEL THE PARADE FOREVER and the Seafood Festival too.
Locals don’t benefit and they cause major inconveniences.
