I hope Mr Walsifer understands what happened here. Even if it was too late, he should know why he was defeated. I believe he listened to the wrong people and went down the same path as the last admin.
Congrats to Jerry, Maria and Mark. You all deserve the victories and I am certain you will all do the people of Belmar right. The true winners are the residents of Belmar. I am proud to say that we have once again chosen to oust another group of elected officials, regardless of political labels, that have strayed from their ******** responsibilities. Walsifer and crew can now go into the same category as Matt and his crew. And if in four years this new regime has strayed, we can throw them into Matt and Walsifer’s bin.
Belmar residents didn’t want the gigantic buildings that housed many people. The prior administration, never grasped the fact that Belmar is a great town with a certain character. People don’t want that changed. Hopefully all future politicians realize that fact.
Now that the majority is Democrats is the Mediterranean project dead or is too late since they increased the height to 60 feet and approved by the current administration ?
Thank you Editor. I am not sure however if the Cafra permit is approved and the developer meets the requirements of the revised redevelopment for that location how can the mayor and council and planning board reject it? I think they are liable to be sued? Am I right?
If any one of my companies got that approval, I would cancel the deal. The developer will still need a cooperative mayor and council. To many variables now.
#9 great questions. We can hope that the project is DOA, but who knows. The current admin did successfully raise the height requirement but that alone shouldn’t allow such a structure.
#11 and #12 I agree with your statements. What I am afraid of if the Cafra application is approved that includes the traffic, parking, drainage requirements and the structure proposed is within the 60 feet I don’t know what the Mayor/council/planning board can do. I am afraid the damage is done by approving the height to 60 feet. I am hoping am wrong.
This new administration will do no good because #1, the system they work under is broken beyond repair. #2, they’re inexperienced people like Walsifer and gang and Matt and his gang, etc. #3, (Sentence removed by Editor.)
Look at Main St. Look at the remaining empty space left from the former Acme. No one is going to rent space for a few months of business. Unless more full time residents live in Belmar Main St will not grow taxes could go up. I hope the new governing body does something in removing the wandering drug addicts drunks and homeless sleeping on the benches wandering around especially them being so disrespectful throwing bottles cigarettes on the train tracks when there are 2 garbage cans on both sides. The area is a disgrace you don’t see this at any other station only Belmar!
I wanted to add look at Main St. Bradley Beach, Nice stores train station is clean, Avon nice stores. (Sentence removed by Editor.) More needs to be done to make our Main St stores just as nice.
#15 … the Borough’s increasing the height limitation may have been the “kiss of death” with respect to CAFRA … NJDEP requirements for High Rise Structures are onerous … including building orientation to maximize Shark River water views by the public.
Thank you Mr. Creamer for your input. I felt the same way once they increased the height to 60 feet that this project or another proposal will get approved even though it will have so many issues for that area and Belmar.
This “election” did come up with something good. My hat is off to whoever vandalized the “republican” storefront campaign headquarters. I consider that a good sign. For the sake of equality, he/she/they/it should’ve done the other gangs HQ’s too.
#22 #23- For me, that vote was the straw that broke the camels back and switched my vote to the mayor’s opponents. There was literally no reason the allow a new height restriction. It was a blatant bow to the developers and, when pressed, the mayor and council could not explain it. It was exactly the kind of thing that the Doherty admin used to do. If Mr Walsifer is doing any post mortem analysis on this election, he doesn’t need to look any further than that vote. I hope it was worth it.
There is a story about a video shot by someone of one of the many homeless etc. that have been ignored for years! The new Dems need to step up and help these people and make the boro safer for all.
sorry my typing is not the best the story is in the Asbury Park Press
Belmar is a magnet for the homeless and mentally ill. They have been allowed to loiter, drink, urinate and worse in public. When belmar had its own welfare office Carolyn Sharrock made sure these people were getting what they needed.
#36 … YES … NJDEP categorized the proposal – ‘High-Rise Structures’ … DEP’s first comment said it best …
“Pursuant to N.J.A.C. 7:7-15.14(b)3, please demonstrate that the longest lateral dimension of all building components greater than 60 feet in height, measured from the existing preconstruction ground level, are oriented perpendicular to the Shark River by providing a site plan that shows the length of all components as well as the height of each component measured from existing preconstruction ground level.”

(Asterisks are mine, Editor.)
Great job by Jerry and crew Clean sweep! Now the work begins. (Sentence removed by Editor.)

Belmar is 1 horse town … Mayor is full time job!
RYRYRYRYRYRYRY
#5 that maybe true, but that one horse is pretty wild.

#7 Please see the Blog post about the status of the proposal and the status of the Cafra permit.

Excellent questions. I do not have the answers.

What will happen to the 12th and Main project with a new mayor? Hmmm
#13- How bout single family homes.

#14. I would be against single family homes on main street. That is not in accordance with master plan. That lot is zoned commercial.

Belmar Main Street is so much nicer than Bradley and Avon. I never shop in those towns. Quit complaining and enjoy our town!!!
Maybe all the blaming and name calling can stop. There are some wrongs that need to righted but I’m confident we can move in a good direction.

First off I want to say I think Mark Walsifer is a good man. I’ve spoken to many many people since the election. The common denominator is this:
9th & Main Street and Kirschenbaum
Kirschenbaum and 9th & Main Street
The Mediterranean project reminds me of ‘The Life of Riley’-
“What a revolting development this is!”
Eddie was the downfall for this administration.
#26 agree. Mark is a good person. He just put his faith in the wrong people. But at the end of the day we are all responsible for our own actions.

Jerry will solve that and all other problems.
This new mayor will do things [to] the town, but not [for] the town.
I’d rather listen to McEvoy than Dilberger.
I always liked Tom’s comments. That’s in spite of the fact his last name doesn’t end in a vowel.
Mr Creamer. When you say the kiss of death about the height, you mean it will be harder for CAFRA approval, correct?

Yeah – What they said…
