Garage apartments here we come!
106 4th Ave is requesting a variance to expand a garage to add a garage apartment. This is in a single family zone with a request for a parking space waiver.
Last year a garage apartment was approved at 419 10th Ave which started the slippery slope.
Summer rental group houses and apts the bane of Belmar. Hx has proven we go down hill right away with landlords holding the proverbial reigns to this borough. Remember it took Community Policing and forcing the PD to keep the peace and we indeed rose out of the group rental weeds. Too bad it can read it’s ugly head again.
Well, once you grant one variance, or 12, now everyone wants one. Heck, how about we build some condos where it’s only zoned for single-family, or put up 5 story buildings where only 4 are allowed. You get a variance, and you get a variance, and you get a variance!
How come you have to pay to park around Silver Lake but you don’t around the triangle at 1st and Ocean?
Oh that’s right, the elite Belmar Fishing Club members park there!!
Elite? That’s a stretch.
No one who lives in this town should have to pay for parking anywhere in this town. Every household should get one or two residency stickers that allow parking in metered zones. We pay taxes and we pay the emotional capital it requires to deal with the summer influx, we shouldn’t have to also subsidize parking.
Well it wasn’t this current administration that increased the paid parking areas. Nor are they the administration that extended the dates of enforcing said paid parking.
Was your statement related to some other news? Or was that a message to the citizens of Point Beach? They probably don’t read the Belmar blog.
My statement is related to the proposed garage apartment without the required on site parking.
Point Pleasant Beach uses pay parking to control that type of development.
BTW
Historically, Belmar had parking meters on BOTH sides of 1.3 mile Ocean Avenue … more pay spaces than today.

Yes. Should not happen.

other shore towns monetize their street parking to provide a revenue stream for maintenance
We already do that.
I do not have a parking meter in front of my house. Better keep my mouth shut.

I don’t pay for parking anywhere in NJ.
all Belmar street parking spaces belong to the Borough to do as it pleases … every street parking space in Point Pleasant Beach is pay parking.

If taxpayers don’t like the elected officials, the vote them the hell out.
