    1. Hahaha. Yea go ahead and give up your Medicare and Social Security.
I don’t know how to break this to you but those are funded with federal dimes. And no, what you paid into it doesn’t even come close to covering what it costs for your care. The healthy subsidize the sick. The young subsidize the old. The good drivers subsidize the bad ones. The stable environments subsidize those prone to tornadoes floods fires and storms. The wealthy blue states subsidize the poor red states.
It’s called socialism, and we ALL partake.

      Sorry Charlie

      1. Sir, Medicare and SS are earned. There’s nothing wrong with getting what you’ve earned. But “Grants” are something completely different. They’re “gifts” with all sorts of strings attached – Lay Down with Dogs, Get Up with Fleas.” Benjammin Franklin

        1. Wrong yet again.
Medicare is given to any American citizen who enrolls when they turn 65 (also the permanently disabled). Doesn’t matter if they didn’t work a single day in their entire lives. Social security, just 40 credits are needed (about 10 years of work).
The cost of care for the over 65 population is paid for by the younger generations. And they in turn will be cared for by the younger generations. What you (and I) contributed to Medicare during our working lives won’t cover the cost for our individual care. Without the socialism component, it don’t work.
So, if you want to not wake up with fleas, you would need to give up A LOT. Or you can just accept that when we all contribute to the greater good, the world can be a better place. I recommend the second option. Go ahead and price out buying private insurance. Please sit down before you do.
And, as usual, you falsely attribute quotes to people. It’s the easiest thing in the world to avoid.
The dogs/fleas quote is from James Sanford in 1573. About 200 years before Mr Franklin.

  1. 2026
pending federal funding … the US Army Corps of Engineers- NY District is positioned to re-start the beach sand fill project between 9th Avenue and Manasquan Inlet.

we need our elected officials to bring home the bacon

  2. It is beyond ironic that a letter from Smith bragging about federal dollars to the silver lake sits along side a meme blasting “socialism”. The money secured by Smith for the Silver Lake is one example, of dozens of examples, of socialism. Other examples include, but are not limited to:

Medicare (a socialist program enjoyed by many commenters on this blog)
    Social Security (see above)
    Medicaid
The Interstate Highway System (all roads actually)
    The Police (all law enforcement)
    Fire Dept
The Military (all four branches plus the coast guard)
    Homeland Security
    ICE
    Airports
    Shipping Ports
    Banking Insurance
    Flood Insurance
    Disaster Relief Programs (FEMA)
    Boardwalks
    Bridges
    Tunnels
    Street lights
    Road signs
    Schools
    National Parks
    Public theaters

I could go on and on. The truth is that socialism is everywhere in this country. Quite literally everything that is supported by tax dollars is, by definition, socialism. And the folks who complain about it the most, usually also benefit from it the most. Please stop with the nonsense. We had enough of shameless irony in 2025 to last us a lifetime. Let’s start being honest with ourselves. Accept the fact that everything from turning on your lights to driving your car to work is a form of socialism. And that federal overreach that creates an imbalance of power toward the executive branch of government is a form of authoritarianism.

    1. socialism, social and economic doctrine that calls for public rather than private ownership or control of property and natural resources. According to the socialist view, individuals do not live or work in isolation but live in cooperation with one another. You sir are wrong

      1. Dr.,sIrjeffriesnodgrassxxviii Aka Mr *,
That is true, lawyers are all bad. Until you need one of course. Then you want the best. And then that lawyer is your hero.
Hypocrisy is free and absolutism is fun. And, engaging in them is your right as an American.

        (Asterisk is mine, Editor.)

  3. I have a mailer from Rep Smith where he is posing w RFKjr. Literally mailed it out to everyone. They’re gonna get to the bottom of the origins of Lyme disease. Maybe it’s from taking Advil.
It has become clear to everyone (some of us already knew including his entire family) that RFK is an absolute nut job. An environmental lawyer that knows as much about health care as well as, well, an environmental lawyer. Smith should give that nut a wide berth.
    These are not serious people.

  4. Name one single item on my list above that isn’t publicly owned or controlled. All of those things are publicly owned and/or controlled AND require cooperation with one another.
Sorry fake Josie. I know it’s hard when your intransigent world view turns out to be wrong, but your response literally proves my point.
