  1. Does Ms Sharkus know that the Belmar council is majority Republican? And has been since January.
On the night of the fireworks, we experienced a sudden and very dangerous storm. Now, I am frustrated with the government as much as the next guy, but I don’t blame them for that wind.
Mother Nature’s displays are always far more impressive than man’s.
If your enjoyment of the nation’s semiquincentennial was ruined by obsessing over how it was celebrated by others, that’s a shame. My advice is to stop worrying about everyone else and start enjoying life.

  2. Linda Sharkus I agree with you 100%.
Where was the flotilla of boats on the marina decked in red, white, and blue lights?
Sad to see the boro overlooked the 250th Anniversary of the USA! Anyone notice the USA flag is no longer flying at Main Street and Pyanoe Plaza. Brandl’s has flag flying!
Like many residents those who love our country celebrated in their own way. A group of friends organized a Patriotic Concert for tenants and invited residents at the senior building. Check out theBelmarBlog July 1st video of the concert.

  3. Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t the letter writer, Clare Hayner the campaign manager for Donovan? Anyway, in the past couple of years taxes went up 21%. Water and sewerage went up 25%. This is all an enormous increase to homeowners. The only thing I can see moving forward is bankruptcy for citizens, a mass exodus because people can’t afford to live here. Not to mention an administration that gave up serving the town to judges and lawyers in a declarative judgment for affordable housing. We lost an historical building in the process. Your gal voted YES to all of this.
The previous mayor resigned when DeBlasio and Maroney questioned the mayor. Every time they questioned his motives, he responded in rage. He also said the only one loyal to him was Mrs. Donovan.
Is this what moving BELMAR forward looks like? I am absolutely voting for Mike DeBlasio and Suzanne Anan because they are looking to change course!

  4. It shows that the previous Mayor knew he was going to leave and therefore made no preparations for the 250th even though surrounding towns were painting, red, white and blue down their main street.

When Mark Walsifer was Mayor, he celebrated the towns 150th. Money was donated and collected to put a clock on 10th and Main including a time capsule that was collected and placed underneath the clock. The streets were lined with banners, and the town worked with the BELMAR historical society to incorporate imagery from 150 years ago. The Mayor worked in collaboration with the department heads to get the community involved. There were fireworks and a large celebration in the historical building that has now been torn down on route 35, which was the original Townhall.

This town had a lot to celebrate with the previous administration. We had a leader who was a Republican, our community was safer and it was more affordable to live.

Under this Gerry administration along with the current interim Mayor our cost of living has gone up and you are correct Linda we were very disappointed there was no celebration for the 250th to enjoy along with the rest of the country.

    1. My taxes went up 26% under Walsifer. He also bought a contaminated building on Main Street for over market value from a relative of his BA. Our community wasn’t any “safer” then than it is now.
He lost the election for a reason.
      Pls don’t revise history.

  5. I have never heard such a bunch of whiny babies. Don’t rely on others for your own happiness. You want to celebrate, celebrate.
This town has been majority Republican for six months. Do they not have any responsibility? What a sweet job. Control the council but don’t have any blame. Hook me up.

By the way, the national celebration in DC was a pathetic mess. No crying about that??

  6. Clare Hayner couldn’t be Caitlin’s campaign manager. I saw her at Jodi Kinney’s celebration party when she won her council seat!

  7. Didn’t any of you “patriots” attend the reading of the declaration of independence in pyanoe plaza? It was lovely and very red white and blue!

I guess it’s easier to just complain all the time. As Patrick Henry famously said: “give me something to bitch about or give me death”

    1. Put all of this extra energy folks into attending a meeting, meeting the candidates and genuinely caring about your community and not your egos.
