  1. Ms. Anan is running for council and she is making a major issue or priority over the logo for which she may financially benefit for as we have really important things going on this is her focus? Terrible and an example of selfserving individuals that should not be voted in to council in November.

    1. First, I view someone being anonymous with two contrasting lenses: one for example, doing a good, humble deed for someone in secret is praiseworthy, while condemning in secret shows a hidden cowardice and a refusal to stand up for the truth. It’s my personal responsibility, to stand up for truthfulness, and integrity, and to hold people accountable for every careless word they speak.

In Tuesday’s meeting I stood up for the integrity of our town’s identity and I will continue to stand up for it when someone tries to impersonate the town by stealing the official logo, especially when it’s an attempt to trick people.

The Belmar Beautiful Sea wave logo created over 14 years ago was designed as a symbol of a new beginning and continues to be a strong identity for a town that is so loved, and so desperately needs a new beginning.

      1. Anonymity, especially on this blog, is common. The reasons vary. Sometimes it’s a very reasonable fear of political retribution. Sometimes it’s “cowardice”, as you point out. Sometimes it’s just someone exercising their right to express themselves anonymously.
They do have a point though. While the logo is a very nice design, I question the need for it at all. It was commissioned by a man who was attempting to turn the town into a product. A product he could sell.
We are an incorporated municipality, not a can of soda. Belmar’s problem has never been its inability to attract consumers.
There are probably three or four dozen issues the town is dealing with that a more important than its “logo”. I don’t believe we can worry about people that are being “tricked” by a counterfeit logo. That is a level of gullibility that defies logic.

We don’t need a new logo or an old logo. We have an official coat of arms that was adopted in 1918. No one’s trying to confuse anyone with that.

        1. That’s ok…
Even Ms. Donovan is aware of the importance to have a town brand. People know the logo. Studies show the wave is more recognizable than the town seal.

          1. Oh, studies show? Why didn’t you say so before. Then yes by all means let’s spend our time on logos. I had no idea that studies show. We don’t want anyone trying to visit Belmar and winding up in, oh I don’t know, Ocean City or Avalon or somewhere because they couldn’t recognize our town seal.

      2. I’m glad to see the ***** facebook lady is so upset about not being able to use the logo. That is a clear case where that lady thinks she owns and represents the town in an official format. She was also the one to promote Gerry & Co.! That says a lot.

        I’m voting for Sue.

        (Asterisks are mine, Editor.)

        1. The Republican one is a lot better! Whoever did the Democrat version probably also lists Microsoft Word on their resume.

  2. Ms. Anan is eloquent, articulate and intelligent. The logo she designed can be used by the boro for free. For anyone else, it is copyrighted.
She loves and cares about this town deeply. She has our vote.

    1. To paraphrase Ferris Bueller: Anyone who feels that the town logo is something worth talking about has their priorities so far out of whack they don’t deserve to be on the council.

  3. I’m more interested in how someone can run under a political party that has spend the last two years trying to erase the rights (and in some cases the existence) of LGBTQ Americans. That spends an inordinate amount of time trying to terrify their base. That ended outreach programs for at risk individuals. That gutted food programs for poor children. That has gutted environmental protections. That has actively defunded, canceled, and redirected millions of dollars in federal grants for the ARTS (the arts!!!) and humanities. That’s what I want to know.

But sure, yea, let’s try to save or change or redesign or whatever the town logo. Let’s make it a Nike swoosh or an Apple. Because that will make a difference.

  4. Hey Sausage King, if you know Suzanne then you know her passion. If you don’t , then you should call her, email her or go to one of her meet and greets. She is so passionate about EVERYTHING Belmar. But she also has the right as a designer and artist to be proud of her work and protect its use. Plain and simple. Don’t make this logo thing out to be more than it is. Talk to Suzanne. I guarantee she will talk your ears off in a great way. 🤣

    1. She is making the logo thing more than it is. That’s literally my point.
The town doesn’t need a logo. Never did. To be worried about it while there are probably 50 more important issues, seems, to me anyway, a colossal waste of time.
I have no doubt she is a kind and wonderful person. She is certainly a talented artist (Deleted by Editor). My point was that the logo is a non issue. It is solution in search of a problem.
But, as you requested, I will reach out and contact her. Something we should all do with every candidate.

(Asterisks in name are mine, Editor.)

      1. Be patient, remember there has been no communication with the old BA and the previous Mayor, alongside the new interim Mayor to make any changes.

  5. If this is your only gripe sausage king you got nothing. You obviously haven’t heard Anan speak. She is passionate for this town.

And I almost feel sorry for her opponent.

    1. Oh, it’s not my only gripe. I just figured I’d sacrifice prolixity for brevity. Worrying about something as inconsequential as the logo just happened to be an easy target.
Being ‘passionate’ about Belmar isn’t exactly a unique trait, but I’m glad you feel sorry for the other candidate, that’s very sweet.

  6. I do believe Ms. Anan also sells/sold merch with the wave logo on it, and retains the right to do so as per her licensing agreement with the town. It deserves a read, as it appears that Ms. Anan may continue to profit off this creation for as long as the current agreement is valid. It includes the right of first refusal and allows Ms. Anan to be the first to produce and sell certain kinds of logo merch back to the town at fair wholesale prices. But I’m not an attorney, maybe someone else is and can clarify. I’m sure some of you will be okay with this, because it’s in vogue these days to profit off the government you lead.

There also seems to be confusion as to whose logo this is. It belongs to Ms. Anan, as sole intellectual and exclusive property. We are simply licensing it only for municipal and related services. Either party may cancel the agreement at any time, and the “official” logo would cease to be official.

  7. Take all this extra energy and do something positive … help a neighbor, help a lonely person, help a stranger, or if that’s too much of an ask how about show up at a meeting, go to a meet and greet, contact your council people?
