Hey #1 it sounds to me like this won’t be the first time you held your nose and pulled the lever for a political hack because the other candidate ruffled your sensitive liberal feathers, you and your kind voted for Joe Biden and that seems to be going fantastic for all of us isn’t it?
#5 no, it’s not the first time I’m holding my nose to vote. But no, it’s not due to my ‘sensitive liberal feathers’. I don’t have those. What I do have is a sensitive BS detector. And it gets pinned to the red when candidates start using scripted BS in order to scare simple minded people with scary sounding sound bites that don’t exist. So unfortunately I have to vote for the candidate that, while still using BS, is using less BS. Both in quantity and quality. Yes, that’s also why I held my nose and voted for Biden. A political hack of a fairly high degree. But he was no match for the former POTUS whose BS was so pervasive, it nearly broke the detector. No I do not regret it for a second. When the house you love is on fire, you put out that fire. Rebuilding can often be painful but it’s necessary. Sounds to me like you’re the sensitive one. Well, if your feeling nostalgic, I’ll tell you the same thing I used to hear from people like you when I complained about the former train wreck… F*%# your feelings.
#7 Don’t know anything about Brian. Mrs Salgado doesn’t seem to understand the basic function of the BOE. In addition she doesn’t know, or care, about what is in the current curriculum. The curriculum that hasn’t changed all that much in years. She’s is acting (and I mean acting, there’s no way she actually believes this) like the curriculum at the BELMAR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL is some how dangerous. So she’s been fine with if for the last 10 years, but now it’s a problem? This is radical right bandwagon nonsense and regurgitating such bunk should be a disqualification. The last thing this town needs is divisive rhetoric that is detached from reality and born out of fear, anger, and ratings.
If she does get elected to the board, she will see that all her made up fears are, well, made up. Hopefully she’ll channel the old Gilda Radner character from SNL, “never mind!”
Radical right bandwagon??? Oh, let’s just keep allowing boys in skirts into girl’s bathrooms and we shouldn’t have any problems, right??? Gee, I guess the “woke” people didn’t totally think these things thru.
#8 …just curious…have you spoke to Erika? Are you sure those are her thoughts? Who do you want in the BOE seats? One more question… when was the last time you attended a BOE mtg. Just asking because genuinely curious.
#9 yes, right wing band wagon. You know, the band wagon that contains people who are afraid of ANY change to their narrow minded view and see it as the end of the world. They’ve been around since before Galileo and they’ll be around forever because they never learn.
#10. Honestly, I have not spoken to her. Just based on her social media posts and comments at BOE meetings. Her entire platform seems to be a call to arms to stop ‘government interference with parenting’. If I’m wrong about that I apologize.
The whole idea of her platform, as I understand it, is nonsense. Public education is public education. It’s not perfect but it is what we have. She has other options- home schools or private school. The curriculum at BES hasn’t changed in years. The fervor over CRT is complete nonsense. It’s the trendy boogie man for those who seek to divide. There is zero chance of it being taught at the grammar school and she knows that. It is a wedge issue and like most wedge issues, it’s phony. It is intellectual dishonesty and there is no place for it on the BOE. I’m sorry.
Her other buggaboo seems to be mask mandates. The BOE follows state policy. Period. Public schools are PUBLIC institutions that rely on state funds. They follow state rules. If she has a problem with masks, then she should take it up with the state. Again, she knows that.
I attended several zoom board meetings and the one a few months back in the auditorium. When people pretend that some sinister change has taken place in public education when there has been no change, it reeks of scare tactics in order to get votes. Can’t have that. I’m sure she is a good person and a good parent. But I cannot vote for someone who either actually believes the stuff she is saying, or doesn’t believe it and is saying it anyway.

I took the time to meet with Erika and find out exactly what she stands for. She is all about parents having a say when it comes to their child. She is well informed and CRT is a real thing. I agree that at this point it is not in the Belmar Elementary School Curriculum and she is well aware of that. Governor Murphy has signed it into law so that the schools will eventually be teaching it. The Board of Education has the right to review all content and omit a percentage of it that they feel is not appropriate. That is what she is saying. As for the masking, her son had an incident where he passed out face down on the ground and was unconscious. The school never called an ambulance. He is physically fit and has been to numerous doctors. It was the mask. Now our students are allowed to take the masks off when outside. Erika stands for the physical and mental well being of our children. She is a sweetheart. Instead of bashing people you do not know please take the time to get to know them. After meeting her, she has my vote. She is the type of person we need on our Board. Erika is well informed, approachable and her heart is in the right place.
#14. Got it. You made your point about Erika 10000x over. For someone who doesnt care for Erika’s views, you certainly can make paragraphs about her!
You need to put all the Erika Energy into the current board members. THEY could use your excessive criticisms!
Have a great weekend! No need to write back to me!
#16 I certainly did put in some paragraphs.
I know you said not to write back but I want to say have a good weekend as well, and thank you for the discussion. I respect your opinion.
I Don’t Think You Do, whatever number you are, have you established a campaign? Are you someone launching a write in campaign we should all be aware of? If not, maybe you should? Instead of questioning people you’ve only met through Facebook posts, you’d actually rise, stand up, and represent something?
#18 I am. I’m representing the truth. So everyone with a concern about what a candidate will do or say to get elected should run for the BOE themselves? That would be a pretty crowded field don’t ya think? We can’t form an opinion about a candidate based on their social media posts? I didn’t realize that, I’m sorry. I always assume people mean what they say. My bad.
#22 Huh? That’s exactly why I’m NOT voting for Salgado. Her issues aren’t important to the parents and children of Belmar, they’re important to her. The last thing the BOE needs is someone who seeks to divide the community. What if someone was running on a policy of demanding that masks be worn in school even if the state lifted the mandate. You wouldn’t vote for that person, right? Neither would I. Running on a policy ignoring the state rules, in either direction, shows a selfishness mixed in with a lack of understanding of the law. You can try to dress it up as righteous activism, but it boils down to this…she doesn’t like masks. Join the club. My kids don’t like broccoli, imagine if I ran for BOE demanding that broccoli no longer be served to our children? I can’t help but think about what my parents said to me when I was a kid and complained about rules at school-“too bad, suck it up and stop complaining”. We need to get a little of that back in to the mix. The very same parents who constantly wax nostalgic about how much tougher they had it when they were kids, but how much better it was, are the same parents that attempt to steam roll even the slightest inconvenience their own kid might face. We’re devolving into a rather selfish society, driven further into our own little echo chambers by social media mania and aggregated ‘news’ sources.
#24. I tried but 20 and 22 roped me back in with their blinders. Haha
My kids too would love the no broccoli rule haha. I’m just not crazy enough make that selfish desire my campaign slogan. 😎
Vote Jen and Michelle on Tuesday!!! Keep Belmar Sane!
#2 that works too
In the name of diversity, which seems like the flavor of the month, I’m voting for the white male. Go Brian.

You just seem so vested, perhaps you could do better than the candidates that have stepped forward. You’re a keyboard warrior, step out, step up!
Stick to the issues that are important to parents and children that’s why you should vote for Erika Salgado!!!!!!

I agree! Brian Conklin ALL the way for BOE!

That info is not available yet.
