  1. For all of the complaints about older kids who scam their way onto the beach and the lost revenue, can someone tell me why we cannot have a junior seasonal badge? Every other beach has one. Asbury, Bradley, Avon, Manasquan, Long Branch, and Pt. Pleasant ALL offer discounted teen badges. Spring Lake and Sea Girt charge $110 for anyone over 12! Can someone tell me why we need to negotiate with the state when all of these other beaches have been selling teen badges for as long as I can remember?

And what are we doing with all of our beach utility money? Last year the beach brought in over $4 million, maybe close to it? Are we really spending that much in salary and equipment and still falling short?

  2. The answer to that is the state won’t allow it. Take it up with them. Saying others do doesn’t change anything. Belmar is watched like a hawk. Totally agree to lower age for paid fees. But believe me as soon as they institute that people will be coming out of the woodwork screaming how we are “against the children” or some other such nonsense
As far as the costs of running the beach, like everything else now the costs are on the rise. The states minimum wage increases are a factor along with supplies, amount of staff etc. I think we have something like 60 guards, 20 blocks of gate keepers, bathroom attendants etc. policing, garbage
removal. A couple of weekends of rain plays havoc on the budget income.
I think we are one of the least expensive beaches around. And the higher pricing doesn’t seem to stop any one from coming to any of them.
Raise the badge price and lower the age.

  3. In the past salary budgets posted you can see who’s paid what from the beach utility like a full police salary for a LT. The beach utility is funding a huge portion of the ems as well as every other Dept in the town. It’s the coffers that even if a garbage truck comes once to the beach it probably was paid for from the beach. Opra the line item budget 2021 and you’ll find what was charged off per line item. Fact is Belmar has the lowest beach price around. Pretty simple. Fall in line w neighboring towns badge prices. You might even see a change in clientele

  4. #7 doesn’t matter how much we charge the town to our north and south will always raise their fees higher than ours they don’t want our clientele and that’s a fact.

  5. when in Rome … do what the State of New Jersey does at parks … no charge for bathing privileges … just charge fees for motor vehicle parking east of Main St.

  6. Count the numbers of humans using the beach in Belmar during the high season, 7 days a week. And don’t forget the beach/boardwalk upkeep year round and at minimum, Lavatories, etc, etc, etc.

  7. There are many possibilities of increasing profit from are beaches and maintaining our taxes stable and/or lowering them.
    1) Increase the daily pass price to $10
    2) Daily pass from age 1 to 12 free, 13 to 15 $5 and/or season pass same as senior citizen.
    3) Street Parking – Owners of a property in Belmar have the option of obtaining 1 or 2 free parking passes to be utilized from Memorial Day to Labor Day from 9AM to 5PM throughout Belmar except on Ocean Avenue. All others will need to pay parking via a phone, App, or when they purchase a pass for the beach or another method. Guarantee this will generate more dollars. Yes, there will be a Parking enforcement staff to control this task and give tickets to violators. Some visitors can utilize Transportation via NJ Transit if they don’t want to pay for parking.
    4) Re striping existing street parking lines to individual parking spots. Some towns have this and it works well. Currently many visitors take two spots for 2 reasons, saving a spot for another car to arrive later or they want enough space around their car. This task can be controlled by the Parking enforcement staff at the same time as task number 3.

  8. #15 AH know it all. I am not in bed with anyone. I am careless who is in charge. I am looking for ways for Belmar residents to get benefits instead of outsiders. Read through the line.

  9. Government Budgeting is totally different from A FOR PROFIT CORPORATION Annual Budget inasmuch as there are Stockholders and the SEC are watching. We’ve had the opportunity to encourage fiscal conservation not spending every damned penny because government will by design take it away in the succeeding year accounting methods as we’ve seen in previous administrations.

  10. #21 that’s incorrect. The local law enforcement has the responsibility to keep traffic safe on the stretch of 35 that goes through belmar. They can also pull over speeders, respond to accidents, and all other manner of traffic issues. Same is true for the part that goes through Wall, Brielle, Neptune, etc etc. So #9 can, indeed, ‘take it up with chief Scott’.

  11. Each of those respective have to get STNJ approval for intervention and payment for services to their properties.

  12. I think the point of #9’s post is that there are police on construction sites in residential/side streets that may or may not pose as much of a safety hazard as the one on rt 35 which is a two lane, much busier roadway, on a curve.
Point being is the price of an officer worth the risk of an accident and someone getting hurt? No matter if it’s a state i or local road.

  13. To #9 and the rest although I agree that safety is important regardless of who’s road state versus borough it is, common sense would say who cares be safe regardless, I think the regulations imposed by the State and county don’t necessarily conform to common sense BUT I don’t think we should fault Belmar as there is a lot of red tape and procedures that we don’t know understand and likely makes little sense but not the fault of our police chief or department.
