Looks like Mayor B got his feathers ruffled and didn’t like it….Glad Katrina pointed out what a difference it makes when you are sitting there. My grade on him so far is a ****!
When is Brandl going to stop monopolizing our Pyanoe Plaza (for nothing I assume). All that space being taken up for our concerts and now farmer’s market. Put him back where he belongs and give us our plaza back!
Mayor B is starting to show his true colors. I did enjoy his exchange with Linda Sharkus (Deleted by Editor). But in that exchange an interesting thing was pointed out about the Taylor pavilion spot and Mayor B wasn’t smart enough to see what was right in front of him. Between Merri makers, and the other two tenants they have all failed the most recent two tenants who won the bid for $5,000 both were unable to live out their leases and pay their $5000 rent, but Mayor B just says that the Borough got screwed by them (which they did) but knowing that history when the bid was placed out under his administration this year why not put it out for a lower rent per month that may be able to have a business make rent. He has not experience running a small business nor does he understand the monies expended and cost involved to do same. Also, his comment that it’s right on the beach where everyone flocks to or whatever he said made it sound like it is a sure thing that anyone should succeed in the food business there and if they do not it’s on them and their fault, but he doesn’t consider the seasonal elements that play in like rain days to a beach type venue like that and that alot of people pack food to bring to the beach especially since it’s a fortune for a family to come to pay to get on the beach for the day. I think if he really understood business he would have said maybe we see if we put the bid out at $3,500 a month which would have been $21,000 for six months versus $30,000 for six months. But his logic is it’s either $5000 a month or we give it away for $1 a month. I really just don’t understand him. The prior tenants were officially removed in October 2022 so the prior admin would have had two and a half months to have dpw remove that sign. He has had his admin in place for five and a half months now and has left the sign—- but blames the prior admin. His lack of common sense and knowledge is very transparent in this administration and that’s about the only transparency Mayor B is giving. Can you imagine if the prior admin gave away the concession at Taylor Pav for a dollar to the Circle of friends he would have had a fit and would have been at the meeting yelling that it was an inside job all to the detriment of the tax payers, but he is more of a do as I say not as I do.
You are partially right. First off, the former admin did give stuff away (**** **** anyone?). But yes, the towns folk did yell about it. You are right about the rent. It’s ridiculous and it was obvious that it was ridiculous. So the mayor should have made adjustments.
However, the real culprit here is the Doherty admin for foisting that giant over priced Hall of Vanity on us in the first place. Why do we need tenants in a public space?!? That stupid (and cheaply built) 4 million dollar boondoggle is the worst case of grift I’ve ever seen. It’s a tax payer funded wedding hall. It’s the first public building that isn’t open to the public. We shouldn’t need to have bids from tenants. It should be a space for the residents of Belmar. Period. Someone got very rich off of that ****. Go in and look at the materials used in that building. If it cost 4 million dollars to build that, I’ll eat my hat. The railings are decking planks for Pete’s sake! I knew when Matt was proposing this monstrosity that we’d be paying for it for the rest of our lives. He fooled so many smart people.
All of the people that got up were very well spoken. Between Doherty, Circle of Friends, lack of return calls, geese poop and bathrooms. I think the honeymoon is coming to an end for this administration.
The woman who spoke so vehemently about the new bathroom at 6th and Ocean last year was spot on! The taxpayers have been completely neglected to accommodate businesses and tourists in the south end.
Perhaps the new BA should go back and watch former council meetings to see how Mayor B acted when he was asking questions of the former administration. Mayor B is definitely a one and done
One and done ? He may get recalled ! This mayor acts a good game but the residents of Belmar are smart enough to see right through it, they did with Walsifer. It may be me but it seems to be getting worse each meeting. Pavilion deal makes absolutely zero sense.
I have lived in this town for 68 years, and never have I seen such rudeness and incompetence in an administration. (Deleted by Editor. There is no verification for these statements.) What a shame. I really thought this change would be a good one, but so far it’s nothing but a huge disappointment.
‘True Belmartian’ Although I don’t agree with the statement (clearly never witnessed a Doherty, Magovern, or Kirschenbaum meltdown), it is just an opinion and therefore requires no verification. That is the nature of opinions. They are, by definition, unverifiable.
Opinionation…what was deleted was my statement about being in borough hall to pay my taxes, and I witnessed (Deleted by Editor, again.) I’m not sure why it was deleted, as the verification was my own observation.

Just another poor guy who never put his hand to any actual productive work. Once these inexperienced men (Walsifer, Doherty, Magovern, etc.) are put in charge of anything, that project (in this case governance) is bound to fail

Don’t Vote…
I am sure the Republican Candidate V. Renner is currently getting the petitions ready for a Recall. And now we wait to see how long it takes for the recall and then the vote! I am pretty sure the new administration does not even realize how easy it really is to have a recall, Belmartians Unite.
I love watching as the commenters on this blog lose their minds. The time it takes to turn on a new admin is shrinking. Like the center of a spinning top moves at a more rapid rate of speed than the outer part. The fickleness of the Belmar electorate (or at least as it is represented here) is comical. I should open a shop that sells torches and pitchforks, I’d make a fortune. If they ever remake ‘Frankenstein’ I know who would be great as the terrified towns people mob.
Why anyone would want to be mayor of this town is beyond me. Don’t get me wrong, Doherty, Magovern, and Walsifer were all bad mayors, but at least we gave them a little time before turning on them.
seems the mayor’s got himself a harem there.
Well there goes this mayor and councils first ***** order of business.

I second the recall. Why wait 4 years?
Was Doherty a Jerry campaign contributor? (Deleted by Editor.)
Thank god for George bringing the temperature down with some common sense. Man is a true asset.
