  1. Great letter. Succinct and lucid description of what these two gentlemen will do if elected. Not sure how anyone would know what they would do, even them, but hey, all good.
I have but one question for the Republican candidates. A question that I predict neither would answer.
“How do you feel about a federal government that takes a TV show off the air because they personally do not like what is being said?”
That’s it. Everything else is small potatoes in my book. My property taxes go up whether there’s a dem or a repub in office. I think our police officers are supported already. I have no complaints about trash removal or the state of the beach.
What I DO care about is the fact that the government is shutting down dissent. If that isn’t at the tip top of everyone’s (red or blue) fear pile, then this country has truly been lost.

    1. what was being said was a lie and adding to the division in this country. And isn’t that the exact same analogy that can be said regarding the horrific assassination of Charlie Kirk?

    2. That is a stupid question to ask a local town council candidate, whatever their affiliation. But hey, do what you do, and be nasty. Let me guess they are fascists.

    3. It was an easy decision for Disney since he was losing millions of money for them. Who actually watched that show?

      It’s Disney. That says something.

      1. Between 1.1 and 1.7 million viewers. Thats very good for a daily show.
But, that’s all beside the point. The government threatened a network with revoking broadcast licenses over the content of a show that they, the government, didn’t like. Period.
The Republican Party of 10 years ago would be flipping TF out. Now you twist yourself into a pretzel trying to justify.

You MAGA cultist can spin as much as you want, but this is big brother censorship at its worst.

        1. The show was terrible. Democracy is dead because a private employer fired a bad employee? You sure about that? **** ****. Go touch grass.

          (Asterisks are mine, Editor.)

      1. There are no dumb questions. Just a frightening amount of dumb people.

It is a totally fair question. You don’t want to know what your elected representative thinks about the first amendment? I guess that’s your prerogative. Personally, I think belonging to a party that seems to celebrate censorship is a tad problematic.

  2. One of these candidates IS a developer who approved removing the height restriction on the Mediterranean project
(As shown in an earlier post).

Also, what does “consistent with our values” even mean? Whose values? Your values? It’s more than a little presumptuous to assume we all have the same values.

    1. Haha. Thats is a very common misunderstanding. People get fired by their employers all the time.
Rosanne Barr was fired from her show BY the network (her employer) after she said some pretty terrible and racist things about an Obama official (she later blamed the sleep aid ambien, which makes sense, every time I take NyQuil I become sexist). No one in the FCC threatened the network and Barack Obama never once commented on it (imagine that, a president with more important things to do than bicker with stars).
What happened to the Jimmy Kimmel show was that the head of the FCC, a Trump pick and cabinet level position (in other words, the federal government), threatened the network. He said that he would “revoke the licenses of ABC affiliates”. That is a threat from the government against a private entity simply because they didn’t like what he said. No single American of any stripe should be ok with this.
You see if I got fired from my job for saying or doing something stupid, that’s life. I’m an employee at will and the company I work for has a right to fire me.
But if the federal government cancels someone because they don’t like what they’re saying, well that’s a chilling example of an Orwellian silencing of dissent.
If you don’t see the very clear and stark difference, well then I fear we are in worse shape than I thought.

    2. She was fired by her employer based on public outcry. A financial decision (again, made by her employer) based on sponsors pulling out.
Jimmy Kimmel was shut down by the US Government because they didn’t like what he said. That’s it.
If the Obama admin’s FCC HAD shut down Rosanne’s show (I don’t think they even commented about it), I would be as angry, and afraid, as I am right now. This is a nonpartisan issue if there ever was one.

      Please ****.

A very large and very important distinction.

      (Asterisks are mine, Editor.)

    1. For once Mr D, I agree with you. But it’s death is actually happening right now in front of our eyes. Slowly choked out but an Orange man baby who was born rich and never had to work a day in his life.
Not with a bang, but a whimper as TS Eliot so fortuitously put it.

        1. Mark Twain never said that. Please stop pretending he did.
The guy has hundreds of wonderful quotes of things he actually said. Use one of those.

  3. What exactly does Mr McCracken mean by “they support a vision for our community that is consistent with our values”?
Whose values? I would bet my 401k that my values and Mr McCracken’s values aren’t even on the same planet. So, it’s unlikely, based on his assessment of the two candidates, that they have a vision that is consistent with MY values. And since my values don’t seem to align with their vision, why should I vote for them?
Welcome to the pitfalls of democracy. And thank goodness there is still a choice.

  4. I would guess that suspending the employee would be cheaper than the network being sued for Kimmel’s untrue assertion, like in the case of George Stephanopoulos. ABC had to pay Trump big bucks for the mis-speak.

    1. Two different things as I’m sure you know.
Stephanopolis is a news show and he said the Trump was liable *** ****. He was actually liable for ****** *******. Splitting hairs in my view but the network settled out of court for 15 mil.

Kimmel has a comedy show and he said something that was his opinion. It wasn’t libel or slander. He wasn’t sued by Trump, he was threatened by the head of the Federal Communications Commission director. The network was threatened with loss of broadcast license.

If you don’t see the clear and obvious distinction between the two, I don’t know what else to say.

      (Asterisks are mine, Editor.)

    1. You may be right, I have no idea. But I would never say “their vision for Belmar is consistent with our values” to describe them. Because A) I don’t know what everyone else’s values are regarding Belmar, and B) I don’t think anyone should be so presumptuous.
