Here is the Procedure –

Mayor Doherty resigned in 2018 to take another job. Watch the beginning of the April 10, 2018 Council Meeting.

And here is the Workshop minutes of that meeting –

    1. A very different situation this time for appointing an interim Mayor. The Democrats submit 3 names but the Republican majority will control the vote.
A nomination will be made by Caitlin, the sole Democrat, but then could die without a second. This would repeat 2 more times.
If there isn’t a second the Democrats will need to resubmit 3 names again probably at another meeting. Negotiation and cooperation by 2 parties, wouldn’t that be novel. Or Council President Kinney will continue as acting Mayor until Dec 31, 2026. There are many more possible outcomes such as finding a ‘neutral ‘ nominee that both sides will agree upon.
      Best for Belmar.

  1. The more I look into this the more I see ***** politics. With Buccafusco waiting to resign July 1st instead of immediately, it creates a different dynamic on his successor. A complete ****. Vote for honesty and transparency, vote DeBlasio and Anan!

    (Asterisks are mine, Editor.)

    1. How would any of this be different is he resigned immediately instead of waiting til 7-1? What would be the different outcome?

      1. If he resigned immediately there would have been an election. By waiting until July they get to appoint.

        1. Ah thank you.
When would the election have been? There’s only five months until the actual election. They would’ve had one in between?

  2. Actually, I liked Doherty as a person – good sense of humor.
Nicolay – A nice woman but out of her element of course.
    Brennan – a total goofball
Magovern – Way out of his league. (Deleted by Editor.)

    1. I like Doherty as a person, too. He has a big heart
When I held a fundraiser for HOMES For OUR TROOPS ( HFOT) on Military Appreciation Day 2012 on the boardwalk Doherty stopped by with a big wad of money. He collected from people inside Taylor Pavilion.. $200 donated to a very worthwhile cause . Thank you Matt Doherty and friends.
That fundraiser raised $1400 for HFOT! 🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲

      1. He’s a ******** ******. And was a terrible mayor. Any money raised was A) not his, and B) for political reasons.
That man wouldn’t take a d*** without calculating the political cost benefit analysis.
If not for the tireless work of Dave, Katrina, Ken, and many others, this town would be an unrecognizable wasteland, squeezed of everything he could get out of it for one more rung up the political ladder. Gross.

        1. Sir, I agree with most of what you said but you must also acknowledge his overall honesty. If, as you say there was any financial hankypanky going on, Honest Matt Doherty would have made sure everyone working for the town got their fair share of the *****, that includes, (Deleted by Editor.) political hangers-on, etc., etc., etc. You’ve got to give him credit for that much.

  3. Completely, totally a ****. If Donovan wasn’t a mayoral candidate I could accept it. But an even bigger farce would be if they appointed Roper to fill Donovan’s seat until the end of the year. (Deleted by Editor.) If they do that myself, my family and my neighbors will certainly be voting for Anan and DeBlasio.

  4. I would nominate Ken Pringle to serve out the term as acting Mayor. He isn’t on the ballot in November and has the historical knowledge to hit the ground running. Hopefully he would entertain the idea.

    1. I thought he would be great too. He was a great Mayor. I personally asked him a few years back if he was going to run again, and it didn’t seem to fit in his life anymore.
      His eyes did gleam though.

  5. The better move would be to require he needs to do the job in person. When he doesn’t show that means he quit.

These people never cared about the town. Only how much they could profit. Let’s hope he is not covering things up over next month. He should step down as soon as possible if his health was that important. I call BS.

      1. He does have an agenda; makings sure Belmar follows the law. His other agenda is always considering what’s best for Belmar. Not sure how “old” of a local you are if you don’t remember Ken keeping Matt from turning ocean ave into Las Vegas.
That’s right, Mr Pringle foiled Matt at every attempt to circumvent the rule of law. And there were plenty. This would be a very different town right now if it wasn’t for Mr Pringle.

        1. Pringle brought Doherty to this town. They were buddy buddy until their falling out. Pringle’s agenda now is his big development project with the other over developer that ruined this town, Barry DePePe. They are all in cahoots to line their pockets.

    1. Is that a joke? If anyone has a conflict, they just recuse themselves from that particular issue. Or at least they should.
Mr DeBlasio is a developer, he will likely have a conflict over projects in town.
Mrs Kinney owns a business in town and pays rent to one of Belmars biggest developers.
The potential for conflicts are, and always have been, everywhere in this town.
We hope that the members of the board exercise restraint and behave ethically.

    2. We have a councilman that does big projects in Belmar and all towns up and down the shore. Are you saying it is illegal for him to be a sitting councilman?

      1. Never said it was illegal, but it would only add another conflict of interest to the council. You would then have two voting members having to recuse themselves from important decisions. Current council is already ineffective, how much worse do you want it to get?
