Caitlin Donovan is her own person, did not run with the Mayor, but on her own, and has established herself as an independent thinker and strong advocate for our little town. She has also worked well with the Republican Council President, Ms. Kinney, and it is evident that they actually like and respect each other. While our current Mayor may have been inartful in his speech, I truly believe his heart was in the right place. 2 prior administrations, one Democrat and one Republican, kicked that affordable housing requirement that all municipalities are required to adhere to, down the road and this Mayor (as inartful as he was) took care of doing the right thing and made sure this municipality was safe from penalties related to what our former officials failed to accomplish. Why a town like ours has to resort to politics that are taking place on a national scale is beyond me. We are all neighbors. We should give each other grace. Calling people a disappointment and lumping Ms. Donovan in with the Mayor is disingenuous. Politics is politics but how can you call her a disappointment, with her accomplishments regarding the 5G towers, her work with the environmental committee, her general calmness and humanity? I think our town would do better with people of her temperament. Can’t we all get along? Hey how’s that supposed First Aid building on Main and 12th doing, which was purchased without enough contingency for the cleanup, doing?
Is that really a question? We live in a town where we have expenses. There is a budget. We can cut services, but at some point it is what it is. The water sewer utility is supposed to be a self contained utility, so you need to raise fees if expenses are not covered. As frustrating or as costly as that is to our residents, there are hearings about this that we can all participate in. Used to be that we could get on the subway for 25 cents, a piece of good NY pizza used to be 35 cents. No more. Costs go up and are passed to the ultimate consumer. It’s not for the faint at heart. How much is a Starbucks cup of coffee?
Fools are programmed to accept giving our money to the government. Zero productivity increases with increase wages causes inflation also. Aviod starbucks if you can’t afford it. Shop wiser. Don’t talk about the subways/trains. The damn unions are the main cause of increase costs.
I’m sorry, are you suggesting that increased wages caused inflation? You should be careful bending yourself into a pretzel trying to rationalize the inflation we’re experiencing. You might pull something. The inflation we are experiencing is caused by two things: tariffs (tariffs are taxes on imports that WE pay) and the curfufle (war) in Iran which threw the oil market into turmoil, which effects everything else. All economists, even conservative economists, agree about that.
But hey, A for effort. I know it’s hard to accept when your guys is screwing everything up. I heard one talking head blame Obama (who hasn’t been president in over a decade) for this current inflation. Desperate times call for desperate measures.
Or we just can’t get the answer. There must be one. They’re afraid to say it maybe.
My taxes went up an insane amount under Walsifer and they went up again under Buccafusco
when you buy 1 gallon of potable water in Belmar, you pay for 2 gallons of wastewater delivered to the sewerage treatment plant (on 18th Avenue- opposite Shop Rite).
Belmar could easily reduce its sewer charge 50% in a equitable manner by forming a stormwater utility.
Mr McCracken is a former council member and should be careful casually throwing stones while standing in that glass house. Political spin 101 is being employed here. Tie Donovan to Buccufusco using the thinnest gossamer thread. Blame her for the mayor’s shortcomings in a clumsy ham handed attempt to push your biased agenda.
So Buccafusco’s behavior is the reason these folks are leaving? Explain then why they didn’t resign til AFTER he did. Why not stay if the person you can’t work with is leaving? Makes no sense. Additionally, the republicans have had a majority for six months. Six months. Is running the government not their job as well? What a sweet deal that is.

Mr McCracken is a former council person who lost an election largely because he supported the purchase of a contaminated property for an over market price from a relative of the then BA. Personally, I wouldn’t be criticizing ANYONE if I had that resume.
