  1. The mayor’s got to get ahold of himself. First, he allowed a situation to evolve in the meeting when many “Circle of Friend” backers took over the meeting to plug their cause,
(People with disabilities to be employed at the new Taylor Pavilion store). He should have limited the speechifying, which caused sustained applause after each member of the group spoke on the issue to three members of the group. He surely knew they were going to be there, and he allowed the meeting to descend into a circus (oh yeah, the ringmaster, Matty D. was there as well)). Secondly, he took Councilwoman Kinney to task on her no-vote on the issue which was clearly political grandstanding.
    ———————————————————————————-
The makeup of the council leaves a lot to be desired – not good. They can’t follow the issues under discussion.

    1. The mayor is not suited for his position. I agree with you on most points. However, the most important issue is Matt D being there. I believe he has an ulterior motive. As far as Kinney goes, she has her right to vote whatever way she wants. Shame on the mayor. Taxpayers are first!!

    2. Matt if made public posts on facebook to encourage people to come to the meeting to thank the mayor. I am sure the mayor and his team asked him to rally support based on the back lash that he had been receiving for gifting this to Matt D because he simply asked.

I do not think the issue is whether Circle of Friends is a great cause or not we all know it is extremely important and not only a great cause and group an incredible one. I personally think a year round place/cafe on main street would be better for this to keep and teach and have consistency versus the craziness of summertime at the beach and crowds but what do I know.

I think the issue is procedures were clearly not followed and this was a return favor to Matt for his support of the Mayor. The process out to bid and the fact the Mayor still argues since we didn’t get $5,000 a month we aren’t willing to take less unless it’s a dollar from an organization. But they gave it to Matt’s organization without putting it to bid for any other non-profit and good cause to have a chance either. Regardless of the Circle of Friends the procedure should be followed. If another administration did this Gerry would have been at the microphone having a fit and rallying people with pitchforks. It really just shows how he isn’t who he said he was. And it is clear this was a favor back to Matt for his support.

I wish the Circle of Friends nothing but the best and I will continue to support their cause not because of Matt but because of the individuals that benefit from this program. Unfortunately I wish someone else took it over because I think Matt will get the most out of everything as usual.

      1. I mostly agree with you, but I think in this case the problem was the process. The process was followed, but it was flawed in my opinion and should be changed for next year.

The min bid was 5k. When that didn’t happen the process should have allowed for a lower min bid. I have nothing against Circle of Friends or Robin’s Nest. In fact I have respect for Circle of Friends and love Robin’s Nest! But giving the space to Robin’s Nest in these circumstances would have been wrong.

I also think that the beef between Matt and Ms. Raucci isn’t helping anyone, and for all the misdeeds of Matt, all he did in this case was quote her (Deleted by Editor.).

  2. One thing about Mayor B is he is consistent! Consistently RUDE! When he was called out on it and sits back and crosses his arms…..another council meeting showing he acts like a petulant child. He needs a few sessions at charm school!

    1. Yup he is like dealing with a child who doesn’t get their way but children are easier to correct and teach then he is. I warned everyone of this before voting for him we saw this a few times while he was before the prior admin and would go to the mic and have his tantrums. At one point he even yells at everyone. Prior to him being mayor, I’ve also seen him go to a Zoning Board meeting get up during comments not about the application at hand but to lecture and scold the volunteer members of the Board that had showed up because some members weren’t there. But you guys voted him in thinking he was sliced bread so this is what we all are left with. Hopefully this will be a short lived mayor.

      1. I surely did NOT vote for him!!! He doesn’t even know what his political beliefs are…..didn’t he run as an independent a few years ago??? Now he is so left he may fall over! And he absolutely is doing this as a payback to Matt…..(Deleted by Editor.) on a job he knows nothing about

        1. I voted for him. Mostly because the last admin had a BA that made being rude an art form. So I thought it was time for a change. This association with Matt, however, will cost the mayor his job. Not only that, it will cost him Tom Brennan’s seat.
People in this town don’t look at people, they look at party affiliation. The woman who stepped into Brennan’s seat is an intelligent, experienced, thoughtful person. She would make a great council member. But the stain of Doherty spreads wide and I fear she will be the casualty of a mayor who refused to listen to his constituents. “Steer clear of Doherty!”
It’s easy. ‘Yes, we will entertain circle of friends at the pavilion, but you cannot be connected to it in any way shape or form, Matt. Sorry’.
I’m not a fan of the particular woman associated w Robins nest either. She is Doherty in heels. The is an ego trip for the both of them.
The whole thing is a bummer.

  3. all of our elected officials violated Belmar Code 2-7d “Rules of Procedure”

    d. Roll Call Votes; Minutes. The vote upon every motion, resolution or ordinance shall be taken by roll call. The vote shall be “aye” or “nay,” or words to that effect, of affirmative or negative by each member, and there shall be no further discussion following the commencement of the roll call. The vote of each member shall be entered on the minutes. Any member of the Borough Council may abstain from voting at any time. When the roll is called on any question, the silence of a Council member present shall constitute an affirmative vote, unless he or she states that he or she abstains, in which event the abstention shall not count as a vote “aye” or “nay.” The question shall be determined by a majority of those members voting unless otherwise provided by law…

  4. Does anyone know if Matt followed the bid procedures properly? As far as I know, he simply asked at a council meeting to rent the store for $1.00.

  5. Mr. Creamer is correct. Comments should have been made by council prior to the roll call. That is the appropriate time for discussion and laying out any “facts”. Is the Mayor going to berate any council member that doesn’t vote along with him now throughout his term? That is the tone that has been set.

  6. Of course Dirty Doherty was there and stacked the room. Circle of Friends is a great thing. Doherty is not. Their association with him is their downfall.
The way this new mayor speaks to people, even his own council members when they don’t agree with him is appalling. I voted for him and wish I didn’t.

  7. I concur with “Curious.” The busy beachfront is no place for Circle of Friends members to “learn” about the food service business. It’s a crazy, busy place where manners are many times thrown out the door by beach patrons. My three daughters had their first jobs as teenagers at an Ocean Avenue sub shop years ago, and I remember many times they came home crying over the way they were treated by customers and dealing with the nonstop lines of people. Plus, this café will only be in operation for possibly two months – at best. Then this opportunity goes away?? And who will be their supervisors? That question has not been answered. I don’t know Doherty’s motive, but it’s upsetting he’s latched on to this awesome group of individuals for probably his own political gain down the road. Having Circle of Friends members learn about the workplace in a year-round, casual, less-stressful environment is the right place for them to blossom and achieve.

    1. (Deleted by Editor.) But we all know dirty Doherty doesn’t do anything unless there is something in it for him and he gets his first.

  8. Belmar sure turned the tide. But it keeps rising. Lets see what happens next time around. I guess all Jerry’s yelling doesn’t resonate

  9. Kudos to councilwoman Kinney for being fiscally responsible to the citizens of Belmar instead of caving into the political cronyism between new mayor Buccafusco and corrupt ex mayor Doherty.

    1. Ah hold your applause. Mrs Kinney was a Walsifer acolyte and happily approved many of the things that were NOT in the interest of the tax payer. This was an easy no vote. It was gonna pass anyway and she gets to save political face. She and Doherty have a history of working together. It’s more about which way the wind blows rather than what’s best for Belmar.

  10. This mayor is no better than any of them. He’s a transplant just like Doherty. He has no real clue about Belmar, its locals and their needs.

  11. Didn’t the town used to put American Flags on Main St for the 4th of July? Why wasn’t this done??? They had no problem hanging a Gay Pride Flag for the month of June!!! Also, did someone steal the mermaid from Pyanoe Plaza??

          1. The opposite of a maid is a butler.
Opposite of a woman is a man.
Uh, what is Zoolander? Never mind.

    1. yeah, which one of those ******* had the bright idea of putting up that ******* flag???

      (Asterisks are mine, Editor.)

    2. Calm down there Mr Sensitive. There are American flags all over the place. Stop whining about one single pride flag like a cry baby delicate snowflake.
Man what happened to the people of this country? They whine about rainbow flags. They whine about beer. They whine about learning about slavery. They whine about ‘woke’ (whatever that is) They whine about books. They whine about people expressing their PERSONAL freedoms. Whine whine whine.

Snowflakes, calm down and stop bitching about everything. It’s exhausting.

        1. I’m not the one crying like a spoiled baby because of a flag. It’s the delicate snowflakes like you that are exhausting. It’s a piece of fabric with colors on it, get over it.

  12. “Glass bottling plants forced to shut down, leaving 600 employees jobless amid Bud Light controversy.”
    ———————————————————————————
This is some interesting news coming off of the LGQTRSBBDDBAS+++ controversy.
    ——————————————————————————–
I wonder what any of those 600 people laid off would say about that dumb flag flying at our city hall?

    1. They would say this, “why do people who claim to ‘love America’ hate some of its citizens?” Why do people who pretend to love freedom, try to oppress a certain segment of the population?
I’ll tell you why. Because they are afraid. They are afraid of those who are different from themselves. And they try hide behind flag waving nonsense.
Mr Dilberger, when you walk around with your sandwich board proclaiming freedom for all citizens, that also means LGBTQ citizens. I know that upsets you, and I’m glad.

  13. I am not a racist person. I have friends of races, colors, creeds, sexual orientation, etc. I don’t care what you are or do. But I am appalled to see that flag flying at our boro. It should not be displayed on a public building. The first 6 months of this administration has soured me. I am sorry I voted for them and will look forward to whoever runs next to give them a try.

    1. What’s even more appalling is that there are no American flags around town!!! I noticed this on my morning walk today.

      1. Where are the American flags in the business district?
Looks as though the brownshirts have taken over downtown.

    2. You are not a racists person? You have ‘friends’ of all races creeds and sexual orientations? Yet you are ‘appalled’ to see a flag that represents support for the gay community on a public flagpole? Why exactly? You don’t think the boro should support gay people? Appalled is a strong word. What about the pride flag appalls you? Is it because it’s been around as a symbol for support of a marginalized segment of the American population for nearly 50 years? Is it too colorful? Is it that you support gay folks right to be gay as long as it’s done in private? Or does the thought of gay being normalized (gasp! They are actually just regular people?) appall you.
You, my dear friend, suffer from what is called unconscious bias. You are not actually ok with ‘what they are or do’. You believe what your television or social media feed tells you to believe. Which is that the pride flag is bad. You can’t articulate why it’s bad. Or why you’re ‘appalled’ at the sight of it on a public building. You just are. And it is because you are NOT ok with certain Americans being what they are. Otherwise you would even notice the pride flag hanging from the boro flagpole. Are you appalled at the sight of an Irish flag hanging from the boro flagpole in March? No, of course not. Support for people who were born Irish is fine, support for people who were born gay is appalling. It’s called a double standard. It’s a double standard you don’t even realize you have.
Folks on the right constantly scream about the importance of personal freedoms. As long as it isn’t a personal freedom that they don’t like.

        1. Not sure what you mean by that. But if you mean the masses that believe everything their social media field tells them, the politicians that want to decide for you what you can and can’t read, and the morons that are against vaccines, then yes, I agree.

  14. Absolute disgrace of an administration! Isn’t June over? Why is the pride flag still up??? Pathetic what this town has become in 6 months!

    1. You’re unpatriotic.
I have a great idea, move!
Move to the south, where bigotry is as fresh as a morning breeze.
Look around *****, there are American flags everywhere. You’re not crazy about gay people, that’s cool. But they are also Americans.

      (Asterisks are mine, Editor.)

      1. Perhaps with your big mouth you should have asked prior administrations to hang the pride flag….perfect opportunity would have been during the Doherty administration when the BA was an openly gay woman!!! Typical sheep

        1. Proud but not loud, um what?
Are you mad that there wasn’t a pride flag up during the Doherty Admin? Or happy? Your post is a little hard to understand. Are you mad that the pride flag is too loud? Frankly I don’t remember if there was or wasn’t a pride flag during the Doherty admin. And guess what, neither do you. You want to know why? Because back then, the right wing nut jobs weren’t mad at the flag yet. That’s a recent development in the ‘’’Merica is goin ta hell in a hand basket!” set. The pride flag has been hanging on public flag poles since 1974. But it’s making the sheep crazy now almost 50 years later. You go ahead and explain that one to me. Don’t worry, you don’t have to. I know you can’t.
Do you get mad at actual rainbows too? Just curious.
My advice, live your life, love your fellow man, and stop being such an angry person. We’re all God’s children.

      2. Sir, everyone’s bigoted in some way. I never met a person who wasn’t. As far as someone moving to the south, isn’t that stereotyping all southerners are bigots?
        ————————————————————————–
I wonder why so many people are always riding a holier than thou moral highhorse?

        1. Sorry Mr D, just fighting fire with fire. When someone is openly, and inexplicably, anti-gay, it’s best to take them to task. It would be like being anti-Italian or anti-blond people. It makes no sense and is steeped in ignorance. Since ‘the south’ has a history of that type of ignorance and a recent love of government interference in personal lives, I figured that ignorant people should move there. They might be happier.
But you’re right, I should’ve said to move to the Middle East- Iran, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, etc. Because they also like restrictions on homosexuality and enforce a religious state with rules on what you can read, listen to, or learn about. You know, like Florida.

        2. “Sir, everyone is bigoted in some way. I haven’t met a person who wasn’t”

I think it may be the company you keep.
I know you are a man of the world. A curious traveler fascinated and in love with his fellow man. A passionate and caring individual who cares more about humanity than his own selfish beliefs. It’s astounding that you haven’t met someone who wasn’t a bigot. Crazy.
Take off the sandwich board and go see the world. You’ll find that there are less bigots out there than you think.

  15. I’m not crazy about this new format. Gets confusing and not in chronological order. Can we go back to old format. This hurts my dementia.

    1. Hello Anonymous,
The old format, first used by Belmar’s Original Blogmaster, was not working properly anymore. It had not been updated in years and was no longer compatible with the elements of a blog. I researched and tested new formats before choosing this one. This new one, I believe, is most like the old one in form and function.

  16. Why do we need flags all over the place? There is a flag at Borough Hall, Memorial Park, the post office, the giant flag in front of Taylor Pavilion, various businesses, the neighbors. Is there a flag at the Doughboy Statue? What about Howard Rowland Pavilion? At the marina? The fountain lights in Silver Lake are red, white, and blue. We don’t need dozens of flags flying downtown. Fly one outside your house and be done with it.

    1. Exactly! There are people in this town that complain about everything. There are American flags flown all over the place and they act like the world is ending because they don’t see one at a privately owned shop in town. The flag police are judging always. As if the ONLY way to show your love of this great country is to hang a flag. It’s fake patriotism pure and simple.
And this manufactured anger is then used to attack a flag that merely shows support for LGBTQ Americans. A segment of the population who, until very recently, had almost no rights. And denying rights for certain Americans, well that’s about as un-patriotic as you can get.

      1. LBGTBQYU Whatever. They want transgender men to participate in women’s spots. Yea that is patriotic to support that. Anyone who supports is out of touch with reality.

        1. Yes, because that’s what this whole thing is all about. Wanting men to compete in women’s sports.

You know, as much as purposeful ignorance bothers me, I still support your right, as an American, to actively engage in it.

  17. I wonder why the BOE meetings are no longer recorded and posted. One thing I noticed was lots of negative comments about a member being immature and irrational, only to see the comments switch abruptly when it was clear where the BOE member stands politically. Then the editor disallowed her name even to be mentioned here, (as protection I assume). This was never a free press and always just rants about flags and personalities, yet it never ceases to amaze me.

    From the Editor,
    1. The last BOE meeting was held in the auditorium without microphones and the sound quality was very poor. That meeting is here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sELXpt2FM0A.
    2. There are no comments on this Blog where a board member was called immature or irrational.
    3. Correct, this is not a free press.

    1. This is a privately run blog. It is not the free press. This privately run blog has none of the obligations or responsibilities by which the free press is bound. Regardless of what the former president says, there are few things more important to a free society than a free press. Maybe nothing more important.
BOE meetings are rather dull affairs (or should be). You can always attend one in person as they are open to the public. There is a particular BOE member who is worth watching. (Deleted by Editor) The type who believe it is their divine mandate to save Belmar from itself. The classic ‘I know I just moved her ten minutes ago, but I am single handedly making this town better!’ No need to mention a name or gender, if you go, you’ll know immediately.
