  1. All this is kind of comical. The former “leaders” of this town (and Middletown apparently) neglected to plan and negotiate affordable housing units among the dozens of condos built during those years. Now, we find ourselves painted into a corner.
And now the funny part. People are quick to blame the working class people that would benefit from the affordable housing mandate. And, with a helping of irony that would make Oscar Wilde blush, they Do Not blame the former mayor OR the mostly right leaning developers who are more than happy to build “ugly, four story monstrosities” wherever they can cram them in.
The situation we are in right now was easily avoidable. If Doherty (a self serving narcissist who only cares about his future political career) and Walsifer (who was more interested in pleasing his base and taking care of his friends) added the commensurate amount of affordable housing during their tenure, we’d be all set.
The chickens have come home to roost.

  2. CAFRA would be Belmar’s salvation for the La Dolce Vita issue … just like the elevated bathrooms at 16th Ave

  3. So Dolce Vita Nick has decided to continue to pursue his 4 story apartment complex on fourth and ocean.

Wonder if someone will ghost-write another “I am just doing it for the love of Belmar” letter for him.

  4. “People are quick to blame the working class people that would benefit from the affordable housing mandate.”

Sir, they’ve expanded the concept of “working class” to include the “extremely” poor. I discovered that language in a report by a state swindler/”spokesmen” at a recent town meeting. Of course, the state fibber vehemently denied the “affordable housing” mandate meant they mean to bring indigent/ homeless into Belmar (anyone who believes that I’ve got a bridge to sell them, real cheap).
    HAR-HAR-HARDEE-HAR-Har

    1. There is a formula for determining the cost of the affordable housing units. They use the median income of a specific region and base the cost on that.
In case you are having a hard time following along, that means the person applying for the affordable units literally needs to be working. And they need to be earning the median (means middle) income in order to afford the unit.

I’m not sure why that’s so hard for you to grasp. And I honestly don’t care. If you believe that there will be “homeless” people living in the lavish Mediterranean project condos, then I’m afraid I’d have better luck having this discussion with a fence post.
