We are an anti-business State –

Where to begin. This “article” is insane. Businesses move. It literally happens in every day in every state.
1) why are the people who live here, who’s property values have doubled and tripled over the last two decades so keen on bashing this state? (We are ranked the second best state to live in by a wallet hub survey. Idaho was first)
2) The company is moving from south Jersey to Philly. South Jersey is the reddest part of NJ, Philly is the bluest part of PA. (Both the gov and mayor mentioned in the article are dems). So blue is better?
3) How is it gonna “create” jobs? Anyone who worked there will still work there. South Jersey and Philly are close enough that no one will even have to move.
It is the admins prerogative to post these one sided articles that attempt to bash the state. But this is our home. It’s where we choose to live. It literally has everything, beach, mountains, cities, parks, lakes, culture, music, and vibrancy.
Instead of embracing the beauty, we’re gonna focus on the headquarters of BCF (not the stores themselves btw) moving from one side of the river to the other? All while ignoring the dozens of businesses that have moved from NY or Philly to NJ.
Don’t hate the garden state.
(The article is a criticism of the Democrat administration, not our beautiful state, Editor.
I believe, editor, that they are one and the same. And, one could argue, that the state is wonderful (glorious beaches, beautiful parks, fantastic museums, vibrant music and arts institutions, top notch healthcare system, high ranking educational system, etc etc etc) because of the political make up of the state.
NJ is a blue state. And, like all blue states, we make money. That money is sent to the federal government and then that money is distributed to red states that don’t make money. That is a fact you can easily research. And it’s an irony that belongs in the ironic hall of fame.
California is the favorite punching bag for conservative media. California has the fourth largest economy on the planet (GDP of over $4 trillion). Not in the US, on the planet. The US, China, Germany, and California are the four largest economies in the world.
Now imagine what would happen to the US economy without California.
Folks on the right are always going on about makers and takers. What they fail to understand is that the blue states in this country are vital for its survival.
Can I say Bizarro world? It’s amazing. The news that you are fed. However, it is not force-fed. Change your news to a balanced news, and you will be balanced. You may actually sleep better at night, knowing the truth.
Can I ask what news am I being fed? Please go through my post and point out what I got wrong. Is Cali the fourth largest economy in the world? It sure is. That’s not a “news story” it’s a numerical fact. Do “blue” states pay more into the fed than they get back in benefits, yes they do. Also, just a numerical fact. This is all public information. This is not opinion, or biased reporting. It’s just the way things are.
There is an excellent clip from a congressional hearing after Sandy. Then gov Christie (a republican) was confronting sen Paul of KY (also a republican) because Paul was complaining about giving monetary relief to NJ. Christie pointed out the fact that NJ basically financially supports KY. Like a parent and a child. Well Mr Libertarian turned redder than his state when confronted with that uncomfortable fact.
It’s worth watching. And maybe it will help you sleep better, you know, knowing the truth.
I love New Jersey, but Florida under their governor is looking more and more appealing. Especially as I am getting older and thinking about retirement.
Seems like we can learn a thing or two off of Florida and it’s government, and the way they handle their fiscal responsibilities.
Sure, unless you want to live near the beach and have homeowners insurance. Then your budget is blown significantly. That’s if you can get insurance at all. Also, if you aren’t terrified of gay people, like the gov, you might find Florida’s laws a little draconian. However, if you like the government telling you what you can and can’t read, Florida may be for you.
Yes, unless you’re gay, black, brown, or different in any way shape or form. Or if you like to read books that the government doesn’t like. Oh, it’s also not great if you are opposed to having your house float away during a hurricane. Or contracting measles or some other preventable disease. Or if you don’t want to pay $7000 a month for homeowners insurance.
But yes other than that, it’s a pretty great swamp.
“This is in no way a reflection of the current business climate in New Jersey and Burlington looks forward to continued warm relations with New Jersey state government.”
– Burlington statement to NBC
So, is this article implying that they are lying?
Also, I scrolled down to SAD like you asked. It is very sad but for different reasons.
The NJBIA president says the NJ corporate tax rate is 11.5% What she conveniently leaves out is that it’s actually 6.5-11.5% graduated. And she also talks about what PA’s corporate tax MIGHT become. Right now it’s 7.49% to 8.99%.
This move by BCF inc was likely made for various reasons. Taxes probably ain’t one of em.
Good article though. Perfect example of biased fear mongering as opposed to journalistic integrity. Hopefully it helps folks spot the difference.
As always, a compelling and well researched response. Your debating skills are legendary. How you went through my facts and dismantled them one by one. How you presented your own irrefutable figures and nuanced financial understanding to eviscerate my point all while staying above the lazy and childish strategy of, you know, resorting to name calling and regurgitating spoon fed talking points from your echo chamber media outlet.
I bow to you, sir. I am way out of my league.
The Belmar 5 mile run is sponsored by goodwill fire company and Jersey Shore Running club. I assume there are at least 3000 runners +. The entry fee is between $35 and $50. That’s $105,000 and $150,000 gross take in.
How much does this race cost the taxpayers? Lots of police overtime, DPW overtime. Set up, breakdown, secure roadblocks. I pray the that the town is reimbursed all expenses and the leftovers go to goodwill and running club. If not this is the same scam as the St. Patrick’s booze fest.
The 5 mile run is a nice event. I am with you on making sure we are getting reimbursed for the expenses. But it’s a much nicer deal than the annual “lets pretend this is about Ireland but it’s actually a first responder” parade.
I like the 5 mile run better than the fire truck parade. But I don’t like either if the taxpayers are footing the bills. These events take in A LOT of money!
All events held in town have some sort of expense for police and DPW, including this weekend’s Belmar Pro and the Autism Beach Bash. By your logic, unless the borough is fully refunded for expenses then the borough should never hold ANY events. Then local businesses would complain that we never hold events that bring money into town. It’s an endless cycle that people have whined about for years. Maybe some members of Goodwill or the running club or our council can answer if any events contribute to police or DPW expenses.
Who wrote this article, Matt Doherty? This is nothing but muck raking nonsense. All opinion and innuendo, with very little facts.
I’m curious why there isn’t a post about these fun facts:
Over 83,000 new businesses were registered via Business.NJ.gov early into 2026.
Total business applications in New Jersey ran up 11.2% through May 2026 compared to the same months in 2025, following a strong 2025 where 161,138 applications were filed.
I guess a story about one business moving a couple miles across the river to PA is more interesting than a story about 83,000 businesses being formed in the last six months.
Well there were 83,000 so yes probably all you listed and more.
But, since you mentioned it, NJ is ranked fourth in the nation (out of the 50 states) for high paying jobs in the tech sector, the finance sector, Pharma biotech, and cyber security.
So, we HAVE good paying tech jobs (yay). It’s one of the many reasons we are ranked second (of 50 states) in overall best places to live. Source wallethub.
I hope all this factual info helps you realize that you don’t have to be angry all the time. This is actually a great place to live. Let’s enjoy it!
I can’t believe the state passed the building development of Route 35 in Belmar. Thank you Mayor past and Mayor present dem.
Why would I even want to buy one of these apartments so close to the highway. If I roll over in bed my face is on the highway. If I fall off the bed, I will get run over by a car while I am sleeping. But, at least with the height, I may be able to touch the moon.
That development you refer to was thanks to the mayors before Buccafusco. One dem and one repub. They shirked affordable housing requirements for years and so we found ourselves over a barrel legally. I still don’t know why people aren’t aware of this. Anyway, you can’t buy one even if you DID want to. They are all rentals. And they will go like hot cakes anyway. Belmar is booming. Tear downs are a million bucks. We can complain all we want but the fact of the matter is people want to live here and they’ll pay almost anything for the privilege.
Let me ask you something. Do you think it’s odd that Bradley Beach, Avon, Spring Lake, Sea Girt and zero of these surrounding towns have these issues. Why is it that Belmar was the only town who had to suffer affordable housing?
Do you think that there was perhaps a deal with our governor and the state?
Seems interesting to think about. Then our Mayor resigned. Next, his loyal companion winds up becoming the mayor after him. She doesn’t even speak of the issue with the books and all of the people who resigned after him. Not a word…

You are crazy. Taxes are the reason companies are leaving NJ

A few words and you understand TAXES are the reason. Just great

What kind of business? Candy store? Gas station? Mattress store? NJ NEEDS good paying technical jobs.
Well there were 83,000 so yes probably all you listed and more.

Just think about it. I know I do.
Buccafusco took the bow for it on his last day before he resigned.
I was at the meeting.
Thank you progressives
Oh and don’t forget the famous quote
“Transparency is crap!”
Gerald Buccafusco
They are already sold out.
(Not sure if this is true, Editor.)
Units are not listed for rent yet, nor has affordable housing info been released. The property is scheduled for completion next fall.
